What I REALLY THINK About the Montreal Canadiens 2025-2026 Season š§ š„ | Dobson, Laine & More
In this video, I break down what I really think about the Montreal Canadiensā recent trades, the players they let go, and where this team actually stands heading into next season. Iām not sugarcoating anything ā from the Noah Dobson acquisition, to what I think about Patrik Laine ā itās all on the table.
Weāll talk about the departure of guys like Joel Armia and Christian Dvorak, the upside of Lane Hutsonās 2nd year, and why some of these moves might be misunderstood (or totally underrated). Is Kent Hughes building something sustainable, or just kicking the can down the road?

š¤ How are we feeling?
The Habs made moves ā some bold, some painful ā and Iāve got thoughts. Lots of 'em.
Are we better today? Did we give up too much? Are we underrating guys like Dvorak or overhyping the new blood?
Noah Dobson? Zach Bolduc? Patrik Laine?! Lane Hutson?! Letās talk about it.
This one is MOSTLY honest, minimal punches pulled. š„

That clip of former Hab Dustin Tokarski fighting on the golf course was top tier
Whiskey, my main concern heading into next season is whether St. Louis goes back to the hybrid defensive system he started last year with. That system requires a highly intelligent and adaptable d-core to pull off and better fits veteran players. I quite like Marty as a coach and I am glad he changed up last year but Iām afraid if he tries to go back to it, it could end disastrously. Any thoughts anyone?
Patrik Laine came in with no expectations, we got him for Jordan Harris guys… I don't like any hate brought onto the guy, it was a gamble on our management and we knew his shortcomings much beforehand. Always gonna support this guy as long as he plays in Montreal.
I still have hopes the Summer will end with a bang and we won't see 92 in a Habs uniform this season or ever again. The shortcomings of other players are from a lack of experience mostly and not effort. For Laine it is all on effort. If they can somehow manage the miracle and resolve the 2nd line center issue with 92 exiting in that process that would be the icing in on the cake. I know he still has die hard fans always making excuses for that low effort. But that it from a Manitoban who has watched if for now almost a decade. He is never gonna grow or change. It is who he is and a massive liability to anyone being honest. That being said I don't see how there could be much interest in any at all by anyone to acquire Laine but it never hurts to try.
Matheson will have better defensive stats this year as he will not be playing nearly 30 minutes a night.
Dude Whiskey !! You cooked with that thumbnail !! As a fellow HockeyJunkieās Grasshopper Iām proud to see this 𤣠Just perfect!!
The old rule is the best defense is a good offence, but with this team it might be the best offence is good defense!
Dach: Has one final year to prove himself and raise his value and potentially get traded or let go. You can't give that guy another contract, whatever happens this year.
Laine: Does not fit anywhere in the lineup: Too slow, lack of produciton at 5v5 to be top 6. No grit or physical play for bottom 6. Won't play PP1. Why is he even here?
If all goes well they're both gone next year
We're you the infamous whiskey7 from hf?
Fact : Without Laine, we don't make the playoff last year. š¤·
Can't wait for the season to start! MM2 OST is š„
I think the fanbase is way too concerned with THIS current version of the team. If we look at the moves that have been made, it gives the impression that they are being made to improve upon MTL's playoff success from last year. And I think that's a mistake. HUGHES is and has been pretty adamant that the rebuild is NOT over, as "some" journalists have prematurely remarked. And that the only ones rushing the rebuild are the fans.
I'm fairly convinced that Hughes is playing a longer game than people realize, and are looking way too much at what we have NOW, as opposed to what is still just developing (Demidov 7 NHL games!) and Michael Hage (Still in NCAA), Jacob Fowler (3 AHL games!), we could go on.
I don't think certain players aquired are necessarily in the HABS long term plans. More like "bargaining chips" for down the road, when a possible "desperate contender" may comes along for him to rob. So to speak.
Making moves to try and contend for the cup in the next season is absurd! Making them to contend in 2-3 years, for a span of 10+ years, is smart, and a recipe for success.
Do we want another 2020 magical run to the SCF (just to be demolished) and done?

I can barely hear you over the music. It might be a good idea to lower it.
Not only for the distraction but it's also Music from 'Mega Man', one of the greatest soundtrack from any NES game and Nintendo has been know to be very strict about their I.P.'s.
Yeah, I know it might be Capcom that owns the rights but why take the chance of getting demonitized.
Just some constructive criticism.
Take care.
Dobson may become the new Brissbois.
Gotta admit, it's nostalgic to hear that music at the end! š
Personally I think Matheson needs to be moved. Sure he's good offensively but if you want a balance, you need Arber in the line-up. The team seemed to play with far more confidence and intensity when Xhekaj was in the line-up, especially in a 3rd pairing role Xhekaj can handle 2nd pair D minutes. Guhle and Carrier likely handle to pair PK minutes this year, so Xhekaj getting 2nd pair with assumingly Reinbacher(?) wouldn't be a bad issue at all. Matheson can bring us in a legit 2nd line center with probably 2/3 other assets attached. 100% think patience is key for sure but if you want to help this team now and for the future, Matheson out and reading Arby for the permanent 3rd pair role while also likely using his brother on the 4th line this year would be the best case scenario to me.
I love that these channels are giving each other a shout out. Not enemies, but partners in crime instead. It is a beautiful thing. I love our Habs community.
Jake Evans. I think he has offensive ability sufficient to center Demidov and Laine – and due to his defensively responsible playing, he could free Laine and Demidov up a bit. Imagine the 3rd line with Dach Newhook and Gallagher – Also I am curious about Oliver Kapanen…. he can play center – I wonder where Aatos Koivu and Michael Hage are in their development…
Not all problems are going to be solved this year but soon – soon – this team will be the perennial contender we've been yearning for since Ronald Corey (ugh)
Hot take: Your content when you're a homer about the Habs and are positive? Much more attractive to watch. The content where you experess your doubts about the team? I turn it off half way through. Shaun Star show in my feed had a headline RAVING about how GREAT they are. Enthusiasm is infectious. As is doubt. Pick your poison.
Got distracted from the video when I heard Metal Manās remix in the BG.
Letās rock all MM OST remix for this season, bruv!
