If you can comfortably make the playoffs every year, and you can win a series or two every year, then you have a better chance of winning the Cup than if you just trade all your draft picks, rent a bunch of players, and then crash and burn and have to rebuild for half a decade and fire your head coach before you're a contender again. The Hurricanes have made the plaoyffs six years in a row, and have won at least one playoff series every year. They've been to the Conference Finals twice in six years. This year, they're better than they've ever been, and despite that they're ranked as having the best salary cap situation of all 32 teams going into next year, with nearly $30 million in cap space with all their key players already locked up with good contracts. There's not a single "bad" contract on the Canes. Some people point to KK's contract, but $4.8M per year for a middle-six, big-bodied power forward with 10G 15A and +10 through 50 games isn't a bad deal for a team like the Canes who rely on aggression and forecheck. They'll have more than enough cap space to sign Rantanen and Hall to decently long contracts and still have space left to add some pieces.

I highly doubt you guys will he keeping him. Hell be asking 14 mil for 8 years and i promise you hes not gonna produce at that rate anymore. Carolina is a really good team, but they dont have anywhere near the raw talent Colorado does. And not only that, theyre a very D first team which Mikko struggles with being from a team where Dmen score like Wingers. He really is a bad back checker as well. (Mikko has 3 points in 4 games, Marty has 4 points in 3 games, and Droury has 2 goals in 3 games)
Next move is to win a cup, you already know how to win a series. Just finish the job, especially with an offensive star like Rantanen who should lead this team to great things.
Then we should of kept Necas , we could of got rid of some prospects and draft picks to a team who are sellers at the deadline for a top six forward ,we gave up Necas for a rental, I really miss 88
