Should the New Jersey Devils hang onto or trade Dougie Hamilton?
The fanbase certainly seems divided over this one. It’s not an easy decision one way or another.
Tom Fitzgerald certainly has his work cut out for him.

I agree the defense is better with Hamilton but they need to put the puck in the net and keep Jack Hughes healthy
The issue with Dougie is if he's not putting up points, he's a pylon on defense. He showed it numerous times over the years and also in 22-23 but his point totals kind of made that okay. Also Nemo and Casey are a year older, they can also bring in a vet dman in case those 2 start to struggle. Still plenty of time left before the season starts so anything can happen
Will say .. Dougie did play a little more physical last season… nothing major, but def noticeable. Just made me nervous when I saw him making hits, which is wild to think in hockey.
Dougie is dependable and top line… if we trade Dougie then they CANNOT mess the trade up, the only type of move I'd be comfortable with would be seeing someone like Jordan Kyrou come in, otherwise keep him. Palat is the one that needs to move, if possible.
When will that clown by the name of Yo Holmes be banned or he is here for entertainment value? 😂

I'm not as worried about the defensive side of the game tanking if we move Dougie because he doesn't bring a ton to the table defensively. What i am worried about is that he's our best puck moving defensemen on an already offensively anemic team..

From my seats in the playoffs dougie was THE. WORST. player on the ice and it wasn’t even close, and if anybody there says different then idk what to tell you. If it got us 9 million to of signed a player like the hurricanes did in Ehlers I’d of traded Hamilton for some stick tape. And as for the young kids, these aren’t 5th rounders these are top 5 picks in the draft, if you can’t make it work with them then you ****ed up in your scouting department
Dougie is important…but it only matters once you factor-in the salary. We cannot have this discussion without factoring his salary. The question is whether his role on this team at this moment, in relation to the salary, is it worth $9MM? We have to acknowledge that his value has decreased…are we not disappointed in his decline – age, speed, physicality, injuries, clapper, etc…
I have a question for everyone that called in and in chat saying that during the 2023-2024 season where after losing Hamilton the defense was terrible because of the rookies. Do you guys not remember the real reason the defense was bad? It's because of the VETERANS like Marino and Smith being absolutely abysmal. You got 2 rookies with growing pains sure but they were probably the 2 best defenseman on the team that season. Right now they have much better veteran présence around them compared to Marino and Smith. That's something to keep in mind.
