Our prospect pool is one of the best in the league, a second round pick for a guy who looks more than NHL ready with a lot of upside is a pretty good deal. In my opinion definitely some risk involved though.
I'm not sure that giving up as 2nd rounder for a guy who projects to be a bottom-6 forward (but hasn't yet actually proven he can hold down that role in the NHL) is low-cost or high-upside, though. It kind of seems like the opposite. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad trade if the scouting staff loves Sourdif, but it's kind of a strange one. I also wonder why they felt compelled to make this move now. No 2025 picks involved. So it could have happened after the July 1 rush when we had a better sense of how much need there was for bottom 6 help. Was Florida really going to jack up the price on this guy in the next 7-10 days?
He can play center. A team can never have enough centers in case of injuries. Im sure he is projected as a winger, but he can also add to center depth.

I’m interested to see how he does with the organization.

Awesome news! Hopefully he can be a good fit for us in the bottom 6
