McDavid stopped drawing so many penalties because the refs caught on to his embellishments. It has to be embarrassing for a ref to call a hooking penalty on McDavid just to have it pointed out to them later that McDavid in fact held the stick of the other player, or an interference call where McDavid initiated the contact. At least half the time there is an infraction on him, you should be calling him for embellishment as well so they just let it go. It would be a bad look to have the best player in the world sitting in the penalty box half the game.
I think the Oilers goalies get over criticized because they are over exposed by a weak defence. Bouchard is inconsistent as is Nurse. Yes the BBomb is great but it doesn’t make up for the giveaways in his own end. Nurse is weak at the worst times and he seems afraid to sacrifice the body in crunch situations.
The Oilers always over play their two superstars when they get in trouble ( which is a lot thanks to a weak defence ). And by the time they get late in the playoffs they are overplayed and run out of gas .
That is a coaching problem. They need to run all four lines and give more credit to their meat and potatoes players. Those lower line players aren’t going to improve sitting on the bench whenever the oilers get behind .
Regarding Skinner , I think he like many past Oilers goalies he is a victim of bad goalie coaching. How many oilers Goalies have they ruined because of their goalie coach. Those goalies more often than not have moved to other teams and suddenly become much better .
The contracts for the best players and nurse leave no room for depth. Asking McDavid to tajj my e a discount to win when nurse and Bouchard and drai make so much money will be a tough ask

Oilers can be contenders still for a while but it's doubtful they could beat Florida with this current roster
I truly believe Chris Drury is building the Rangers roster with the sole intent of adding McDavid either via trade or as a UFA next year. They are a perfect match with the direction Drury is going.
IMO, the Oil need to improve thier goaltending. Which hasn't happened. Yes they have time to make a trade, but what will they have to give up???

Shannon, as an Oil fan THANK YOU forncalling out about the reffing nit calling penalties on offensive teams. It was palpable in the seasonn(and calls were down league wide) but it became obvious it happened when calls for the same thing wouldnt also be called for us, only against us. All we.want is fair calls across the board, not favouritism! So I sincerely appreciate your objective call out as fans be crazy lol 🙏🏼🥰

The problem with using regular season stats to evaluate the players is that the Oilers don’t care as long as they make the playoffs. They value Bouch over Nurse because of his superior playoff performance. The noise regarding asking Nurse to waive his nmc is based on his perceived weak play in the finals. The panthers are even more playoff focused. Their chance of missing the playoffs is not as low as you’d think.
