I like Rust but if we trade the Beast it has to be for a younger guy!

No to Rust. Alex Tuch would be intriguing. These players are going to have to play for reasonable contracts. Rust is absolutely on a decline. Remember our AHL goaltending is thinning out rapidly! Matt Murray is gone already.
33 years old and only scored 31 goals playing with Crosby? I wouldn't trade him for Cowan straight up. Hildeby and Jarnkrok? I would make that deal. Hildeby is is a future number 1.
We don't want to give prospects for has been players. That's how you get cups. Trade your 30+ aged players that are on the down swing of their careers for prospects. Trade Matthew's and Nylander for 5 first round picks each, now and build the future. Don't make the playoffs for a few years and build. We can't win with half effort players. Toronto don’t need Rust, and trading Cowen for him would be a disaster.
Toronto could start by drafting better, and actually then keeping them. Remember in 2022 when Toronto was weak on defence. Their first pick round 2 #38 Fraser Minten… That worked out great who they traded to Boston for Carlo. Well 2nd round 62nd overall Lane Hutson went to the Habs. Management in Toronto need to do better this is just a small example
I'd rather do Morgan Rielly, Robertson, Hildeby, and Kampf for Erik Karlsson.
They better not get rid of Cowan . He is special and can possibly be like marner he has the vision and play making skills. He’s also a farm boy who has some grit and is bigger then Mitch and will put even more size on
Rust is decent and would improve this team for sure. However I’d rather rakell who is a year or two younger and just put up his biggest year yet . Either or would be better then what they have now , I just don’t see how Dubas gives up rust for Hildeby lol. I’d imagine it would have to include someone else . Kampf as well? I now Dubas doesn’t mind him either . Defensively responsible and his contract almost done so you can get him for next to nothing his next contract . We will see what happens

I don’t see this panning out for the cost, Mctavish is a nasty player all day I’d go all in on. Terry might be a better fit as well.
He has a few more good years left , a short term would be a decent choice .
They can’t get rid of Cowan 100% and I wouldn’t get rid of danford unless you’re getting an elite player back. We need to stop getting rid of draft picks as well.
Well Dubus wants Hildeby, so Rust can be in the trade and the leafs can give up Hildeby, and Robertson…..Pitt wants Hildeby.

I have developed an addiction to Maple Leaf fans after listening to them blame Marner for everything from the price of groceries to not winning the cup in the last 70 years. Very entertaining. I heard one guy say it was Marner's dad's fault for abusing him. Which is why he couldn't handle the pressure in Toronto. And I am soooo rooting for Vegas to win the Cup. That would be the funniest thing to me in the last ten years.
Will the Leafs be struggling to make the playoffs this season? They have no trade capital that would result in a decent player in return. The past has left the Leafs light on prospects, light on draft picks and nothing of great value on the roster they can afford to give up. They could possibly take on another teams salary dump but free agency was the best path forward based on the reality of the situation but no players chose Toronto.😪
