Isles will know more when the return for 27, 44 is complete. and bouchard drafted in same draft as 8 settled on a 4 year deal with oil. Isles could go after r. andersson.
Isle system has risen to 11. Thats what a little bit of unloading and lottery luck can do for isles. Of course the benefactor of misa sj is now top ranked system in nhl.
I wonder how isles latest khl sniper 165 lb. soaking wet shabanov and 22 g in 65 gp will do? Last isle khl sniper 7 scored 30 in khl, 11 as an isle so don't get those hopes up. And heineman a cat first rd. pick in '20 has done nothing so be cautious with heineman too.
Interesting to hear that they consider Emile to be a 4th line forward. Too many people were talking him up to be a future power forward star.
I don't mind if they re-sign Lee or Pageau, as long as the cap hit is low and theyre not taking a roster spot from a prospect that is NHL ready
Heineman is not a 4th liner and could an excellent as a 3rd or even 2nd liner…he has that rare playoff compete level, speed, shot, hitting …plus decent size.
Very enjoyable and great insights on both ends. Gil nailed it as expected, although I think Dobson was done a bit dirty, mostly addressing his downsides. Maybe the topic moved away from him too quickly, as I am sure Canadians are hopeful, they didn't get the cat in the bag. As for the Isles the winds has certainly changed and very fast, starting with Nelson rejecting us, doing us a favour, forcing the first stones to be lifted, even if he was a very good hockey player with the heart in the right place. All become fortunate circumstances, with the first pick, but we also rode the right waves getting my favoured GM, and he has been everything I hoped for.
To make an omelette you have to break some eggs, and we were willing to, while Lou was very reluctant to do so, which meant we had a lot of gap fillers. Still some way to go, but Tsylpakov and Shabanov are two consecutive brilliant low risk/high reward chances from Russia. Heinemann looks a great pick and so did some of the defencemen we got at the end of the season, where D'angelo and Boqvist are staying. Future went from bleak to very bright, and not going to slow down with 2 first round picks in 2026, that is full of talent.
Had hoped for Ehlers, but I see our choices a more intelligent in a retool, and not quite possible with our cap as it still is in repair mode,.
Gil, I must say you sounded a little harsh on dobber. Nothing about his improved play when he came back from the injury. Him saying “the light finally came on as he was watching the games when he was out hurt .” Noah was more physical and was jumping up on the play every chance he had. Funny you mention the toews trade because I think this is going to end up being ten times worse! He just got married the kids will be coming soon, and not to mention his man strength. He still looks like a scrawny kid at 25. Not sure why darche didn’t get a young defenseman in return and not another bottom sixer, because we don’t have enough of them. lol
I will take Heineman, Eklund, and Aitcheson over Dobson every Day! I think Heineman and Gatcomb will be amazing together! Not sure who would center…. Likely Zeeks unless Zeeks is traded and Ritchie plays in that middle spot! Heineman, Ritchie, Gatcomb would cause Havoc and also generate offense!!!! Islanders still need to deal off Pelech to get rid of Glassman and his cap! Schaefer, Pulock…… Romanov, Tony D , then a rotation George, Mayfield, Boqvist! I actually feel The Islanders have a better chance to make the playoffs this coming season then last Year
Good 🌄, Gil. How are you? Also, Good 🌄, Laura Saba and Ian from LockedonCanadiens. I think Emil Heiniman will be just fine, has he fully recovered from his 🚗 accident remains to be 👀. Noah Dobson was very good when paired with Zedano Chara, he was good, but when he Chara went, he took the best part of Dobson with him. I also think he got along with Patrick Roy. Patrick Roy does have experience working with the younger players. The Montreal Canadiens have a shot of getting better. Yes, the last time they won the Stanley Cup, Patrick Roy was the goalie that was 32 years ago. I'm not saying they're going to win it, but they're retooling, too. I put down Lou Lamoriello a lot, but he did do a fine in NJ, but he couldn't handle the Cap Space, and it cost him his job as GM. Hear from you later, Gil. Also got to hear from you Laura and Ian from LockedonCanadiens. I 👀 Game 3 of the 80 Finals. Key moment. When Duane Sutter was in the box, Lorne Henning got the shorty that got them going. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
Great Podcast Gil! II think both the Habs & Isles will be top teams in the conference in a few years. Exciting times here in Montreal & Long Island. Have a great weekend Gil. Happy 4th. LGI
Good morning team and Happy 4th of July! First of all, welcome Ian and Laura. Gil, I might seem a bit insensitive here, I'm not at all thinking about what this trade means for Montreal. I like to think the Islanders scored BIG TIME on this trade, and the players picked from the Habs. It is my wish that Dobson plays for Montreal as good, or slightly worse then he did with the Islanders! I do wish him well, but I want him to flop if and when we play against them. Excellent episode. I enjoyed it immensely. Everyone, have a great and safe Independence Day, and have a wonderful weekend! See you all again Monday. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
Dobson is also soft he will lose board battles to smaller players often. I expected Dobson to take his game to another level defensively he just hasn’t yet.
Super show. Thank you 😊
Have to admit, the Canadians locked on hosts were great. Very informative. We heard from other teams locked on and felt they weren’t as good. Thankfully we have Gil. Think Schaefer could benefit another year not in the nhl. I’m ok with that. The skating is impressive. The burst is mcdavid like. Just needs to get stronger. I’m fine with more development and conditioning.
As good as Schaefer, Eklund and Aitcheson are, you could argue Prokohorov, too, along with Heineman and Drouin, the biggest additions this summer and arguably the most important ones are Darche and Thompson. It is critical that Thompson turns things around in Bridgeport and develops players to the big club. I'd love to see Maggio and Jefferies get back on track, along with Odelius.
