Mike Palmateer is my favorite player of all time. I loved watching him and the rest of his teammates on the Toronto Maple Leafs of the mid-to-late 1970s. Watching his unique and colorful style of goaltending was always fun and exciting. Along with other great players like Sittler, McDonald, Salming, Turnbull, and Tiger Williams, the Leafs were one of the best teams of that era and a main reason why I still cheer for them today. They would have continued to shine had Harold Ballard not made a major blunder in bringing back Punch Imlach to retool the team. Instead he totally destroyed them with the biggest blow coming when he traded Lanny McDonald. A year later, he sent Palmateer to Washington which for me was absolutely devastating. Seeing this card again reminds me of that painful time. I wonder if you can find any cards of him as a Leaf, the way he will always be remembered and treasured by his biggest fans.
