NHL Official Rules 2012-2013: Rule 43: "43.1 Checking from Behind – A check from behind is a check delivered on a player who is not aware of the impending hit, therefore unable to protect or defend himself, and contact is made on the back part of the body." At 1:14 in the video it is clear that Gryba contacts the backside of Eller's arm and torso. At 1:19 you can see Gryba coming in from the far side of the ice and squaring up. Eller doesn't turn around enough before impact: hit from behind.
Gryba hits the back of Eller's shoulder between 1:12 & 1:14 on the video. The hit doesn't have to be from behind but to the "back part of the body" so…
I just watched Shanahan video for Gryba hit. The better video quality (no offense to M3TVHighlights – thanx for posting) clearly shows primary contact to Eller's head, with secondary to the back of the shoulder. This is a text book rule 48 violation.
