Whoever is complaining about Marner being on the team should just shut up and go away.
So guess I’ll be that guy.
Marner is an answer to a problem VGK didn’t have. Regular season and power play scoring was fine last season ( and I’ll admit i was surprised given all the folks that signed elsewhere) but once playoffs started that all faded away. While a lot of people are handwaving away Marner’s 9 year career in the playoffs once may be a coincidence, twice might be bad luck, third is a trend…….
So remember when VGK was going to have the best defense in the Pacific? While a lot went into why it didn’t happen I’m willing to say Petro being injured had more than a little as to why. Petro is not playing next year, if ever, and now they don’t have the cap space to replace him. I will point out that all the solutions so far are all players available last year when the defense was very very mid.
By the way don’t mistake my objection as that Marner isn’t worth the money or that he isn’t going to improve scoring, he will do both and maybe the playoff scoring won’t be a problem but a lack of defense definitely will.
And for a bit of extra spiciness, Toronto got the better end of the deal because Roy actually solves a problem they had.
Calgary is in the absolute worst position in the conference. No way are they contending next season
Players don’t want to go to Canada, for me due to the state tax, everything is paid in US dollars so if the Canadian dollar is lower than the US, Canadian teams have to put prices up to break even
