10 NHL Players That Will STILL Get Traded This Offseason!

10 NHL Players That Will STILL Get Traded This Offseason!

With how barren the free agent market is this off seasonason, that means that we are going to see a lot more trade activity, especially over the next couple months as teams look to fill their holes. And it’s good news for NHL teams. There is lots of talent available. But today, I want to go through 10 NHL players I think will still get traded this NHL off season after the wave of moves have been made. So, which players do I think are still likely to get traded over the next couple months? Well, make sure you guys watch till the end as we go through all the player breakdowns to see who they are, where they could go, how much they could be traded for, and make sure you hit that subscribe button if you’re new for more hockey content just like this all throughout the offseason. Now, we’ve already seen a ton of action this off seasonason. Five out of the 15 names I had in my 15 players that could be trading in the offseason video a few months back have already been dealt and likely quite a bit more, too. I just look around the NHL and there are far too many holes on teams that want to take that next step into the playoffs, especially with their cap situations that I think we honestly have to see some moves because most of these rosters are just not complete. But with that being said, let’s get into the first team that I think is likely to be traded still this summer in bow environment of the Buffalo Sabres. I mean, Buffalo’s defense is a great example of a team that I don’t think is all that complete right now. They have a weird situation trying to acquire all these right defenseman, but a player like Bow and Byum, who is a left D, isn’t really fitting too well into that system already. You’re going to Matia Samuelson there, and we’ll talk about him potentially later on in the video. But in Byum’s case, it seems like Buffalo kind of has this flux of left defenseman, and he’s been the one that they’ve been wanting to trade the most. Now, it does seem like there’s a lot of offer sheet interest, but it seems like Buffalo’s asking price is similar in that range. So, I would expect Bayum to either get traded or offer cheated, but in some way or another, I feel like he’ll be out of Buffalo starting this fall. He’s an interesting player and something that offensively has had his moments this last year. 38 points in 82 games. I’m a little bit harsher on his defensive game and how much that five on five ability is truly there long term. But I think in Byron’s case, he’s still a promising young defenseman. And if you do get the best out of him, I think he could be a middle pairing guy. For me personally though, if I’m Buffalo, I really would go after a buy trade with how much the interest is out there, with how much you could get back in even an offer sheet if it were to happen. I think it just makes a lot of sense. There is some whispers out there that teams will be offering a ton in an offer sheet to try and steal them away from Buffalo. But at the same time, that just means more picks back they could hopefully use in a different trade at some point. But it just feels like Buffalo’s defense is would be in a weird spot with Byum and without it would just make more sense of how they’ve constructed that roster. When you look at that Sabres team and the roster, especially on the defense, you have Bow and Byron playing on the left side with Power and M and Matias Samuelson. But you also have to put Raz Stalin on the right side of the defense for that to work, which as a Dalene, of course, being a left defenseman, it’s possible for him to play there. And of course, Dalene is still going to be good wherever he plays, but it’s not exactly ideal. So, this Buffalo team feels at least one or two moves away from actually being a complete roster for next fall, which knowing the Buffalo Sabres, they probably won’t make any moves because that’s just what they do. But moving on here to a player that we talked about a ton throughout this summer and Marco Rossi of the Minnesota Wild. Somebody that I still think is likely to go out of Minnesota, but it’s an interesting situation because Minnesota has gone back and forth having him on trade rumors, having him not thinking that they’re going to trade him away, thinking that they might end up keeping him. We don’t know what the heck is going on there in many. The big thing that I think has kind of changed Minnesota’s philosophy for this summer has been the Colorado Avalanche being able to resign Brock Nelson. Because from all accounts, it seemed like Minnesota, if he was going to go to the open market, were going to be offering a ton of money for Nelson, which makes sense considering their team need at center and who they like as players. But Marco Rossi is still something that I look at the center situation and I feel like for them, they’ve been always looking for a center improvement in this market and it’s just a matter of if they’ll actually get that or not. The problem to me is that you’re trying to trade a center that is still really good and trying to look for an upgrade. And not many teams are looking to decrease their center position. And in Rossy’s case, of course, this last year, 60 points in 82 games, 24 goals. The value there is still pretty high. So, it’s been a really tough negotiation and deal for Minnesota to figure out. But, of course, Rossi being an offer sheet candidate, too, makes things really interesting over these next couple months and could lead to a trade just because of that. If I’m an NHL team, I think a Marco Rossi offers sheet just makes a ton of sense. Somebody that you can buy a low on, but also in Minnesota’s case, doesn’t seem like somebody that they really want to have long-term on that roster. So, to me, I think a trade is still pretty likely. And I I think it’s a good thing because Rossi obviously isn’t valued in Minnesota, but is still a perfect middle six center, at least to me. Now, we go into somebody that I think is extremely likely to get traded this off season. Let’s go into the Pittsburgh Penguins and Eric Carlson. And this is somebody that I think is going to be in in a fascinating one because of the contract itself making $1.5 million. But we’ve heard a lot about how Pittsburgh is willing to retain salary, which with them heading into this retooling mode, why the heck wouldn’t you? I would be retaining every cent possible on the Pittsburgh Penguins to make a trade happen because Carlson’s value is never going to be as high as it is now. I mean, I don’t think it’s still exceptionally high, but at his age at 35, he’s going to just keep declining. And I think for Pittsburgh, it just makes a ton of sense to offload him. Now, offensively, Carlson is still a great player in these last couple of seasons, even though he dropped back down from his 101 point year. He’s still gone backtoback 50 plus point seasons. And I think is an effective goal scorer, effective power play guy, especially. It’s just about finding that fit. But I think there are a ton of teams out there that kind of need that last right defenseman potentially on that middle pair for that. Detroit of course makes sense, but other teams like Dallas, I could pretty easily see being in on him, especially at 50% retain. If the Stars are able to offload some salary in that deal, then I could pretty easily see it happening. Kind of like what the Pittsburgh Penguins did, getting rid of all the salary to take on Eric Carlson in the first place. So, I could see something similar happening there. I I see it as more of a late offseason type of deal, like a late August type of trade, mostly because I think Pittsburgh is willing to stay patient, but I think it’ll ultimately pay off in this market that has a lot of teams still needing that extra right D. Now, this isn’t the only Pittsburgh Penguin on this list because there are a couple others that I could see being in the mix. I’m not going to have Ricard Raquel here because I think he’s one of the more likely top end guys to stay for Pittsburgh. I see that as more of a trade deadline deal in next year’s NHL deadline. But a player that I pretty easily see being traded alongside of Carlson, maybe not in the same deal, but around the same span is Brian Rust. Somebody that also in Pittsburgh’s case doesn’t feel like a long-term option for them because of the age and because of the situation there. But I think in the Penguins case, to get the most picks possible, I think Russ could underratedly get them a lot of value back. As somebody that has been a super consistent score over the last few seasons, even though the health of course has always been up and down, when he is healthy, he is still a premium score. And over the last few seasons, I mean, just this last year, he got 31 goals, 65 points in 71 games on that Pittsburgh Penguins team. He’s still a great complimentary piece. And for that team wanting to take that next step in the playoffs especially, there’s fewer options out there that are as experienced and as good as Rust is when the going gets tough. Now, the big thing that might scare a few teams away from a trade is the contract itself. He makes $5.12 million, which is a pretty good cap, I would say, for Brian Rust. But the term is a little bit worrying. You have two years after this next season, so that’ll take him a little bit further on. But I think for a lot of teams still needing that playoff experience, wanting to make that extra push, like we said, I think it just makes a ton of sense. Yes, the term can be a little bit scary, but at 5.1 million also, I don’t think it’s a humongous risk either. I don’t know if Russ would be able to get a firstrounder, but I could pretty easily see a second, a top prospect, maybe another depth pick on top of things to really solidify everything for the Pittsburgh Penguins. I think it’s just an inevitability at this point and I think Russ is even more likely than an Eric Carlson trade just because you don’t have to retain any salary in my opinion to make a deal happen. And on top of that, Eric Carlson has a full no move clause so he can deny and agree to any trade. In Brian Rust’s case though, no trade protection whatsoever. So a lot easier to deal. Now going on to maybe the most likely player to get dealt this off season because I don’t know how their team is able to survive if they don’t end up trading him and that is Matt Dumba of the Dallas Stars. If the Stars don’t do anything else this off season, they do not have enough cap space to start the year. Genuinely, that is not that is not faking anything. That is not telling lies. They need to make a trade to offload salary or else they will not be cap compliant. And you got Matthew Dumba at $3.7 million. And it just makes all the sense in the world. It’s very curious to me though because all throughout free agency, the Stars have been resigning their guys. Even guys like Mills Lungquist, who I didn’t really thought think would have much of a future with the team. They signed at like $1.2 million. So, they’re throwing out the money quite a bit to the depth players on the roster, but we didn’t see the Stars actually go out and buy out Matt Dumba while they had the chance. That buyout window has now passed. So, it seems like a trade has to happen for anything to happen for the Stars team. I hope that Jim Nil knows he has a trade lined up because if he doesn’t, I don’t know what the heck is going on here. What I expect to happen though is that Matt Dumba will get traded for likely a decent mid- round pick going back to take that type of contract because at this point I don’t think Dumba has any positive value whatsoever. The Stars tried it, it failed completely. He didn’t even play in the playoffs, which is what Matt Dubba should have been brought in for in the first place because he wasn’t good enough simply put. And in every case, it was just a failure of a deal of a contract and already is going to be offloaded. But I’m looking at a team like San Jose who might need some depth on the right side of the defense. And why not take a mid- round pick just to bring on some salary. You need to get to the cap floor anyways. It just makes a ton of sense. Now, let’s go on to a defenseman on the right side that I think will actually bring some positive value. And Raasmos Anderson of the Calgary Flames. Now, I was debating putting him on this list because Calgary kind of in a similar situation to Eric Carlson with Anderson. Doesn’t feel like they’re in a complete rush to trade him, but we have seen a lot more momentum over the past few weeks as he’s declined positions from the LA Kings was open to a trade to Vegas, though they weren’t able to make that deal happen. So, even though Calgary, I think, is patient with a with a with a trade in Anderson’s case, it doesn’t feel like they are staying quiet by any means. They’re working the phones. They’re still trying to deal him, which I think is the right situation. Anderson, of course, as a upcoming UFA next year is somebody I think is fine. Has his moments, but largely, I think, comes up a little bit disappointing. Had the great start to the year last season for Calgary, but really slowed down, especially defensively. I think in Anderson’s case, he has a fine puck mover, but not somebody that I’d want to keep long-term, especially like an $8 million plus capit, which I think is what he would command with the Flames. I think a lot of teams want to get the passion that Anderson brings, especially on the right side of the defense as a middle pair D. Of course, a team like Buffalo has been rumored for a long time that we’ll actually see if that ends up happening, but I think a lot of teams are still interested in him, and I could pretty easily see him being dealt. The big thing though that could maybe hurt this from happening is just the patience again from the Flames. I could pretty easily see them just going into next year, keeping Anderson, and then having him as one of the premier deadline candidates for next season. So, that’s a possibility. But I also think with this summary of how much activity we’ve already seen from the Flames, how much they’ve already wanted to trade him that I could see a late offseason deal just like Carlson materializing. Now let’s go on to a center in this market. And of course with how thin it is with all the big free agents now signing even a guy like Pia Sudter off the market onto the St. Louis Blues. The trade market is going to be something here that a lot of teams hope to capitalize. And let’s go on to Pavle Zaka of the Boston Bruins. somebody that I just think is so likely to get dealt, especially with some of the center prospects like Matthew Quattra, potentially Frasier Minton coming out of the fold in the bottom six next year. Yes, Saka has played first line minutes, but I think they’ll try to just bump up the middle six centers they have and guys like Middlestat and Elias Lholm onto that top six. Zaka, I just think especially as a cap dump makes a lot of sense, too, if the Bruins want to go for some more free agent targets perhaps. But making $4.75 million, Zaka has largely been a guy that’s fluctuated with the top end guys in that Bruins lineup. When the Bruins top end guys are there and consistent, he’s been a great scoreer because of it. You see his in his second season with the Bruins getting 89 points after 57 points season the year before. This last year had a bit of a decrease in terms of his value, in terms of of his production. But I think that’s largely what Zaka is. It really depends on his deployment, his position. He can be fine in a kind of complimentary firstline center role, but I don’t think that’s what the Bruins should be reaching for, especially if they have the opportunity to deal. Now, we talked about Bow and Bar on that Sabres defense a bit before. Let’s go on to another defenseman on the Sabres defense and another left-handed shot here. And Matias Samuelson. Now, I think the Sabres are probably going to trade one of these two players in a Bone Bar or a Samuelson. That’s where I see as the most likely, but I could see a scenario where they trade both of these guys, maybe get a left defenseman in one of those trades and try to just retool that defense completely. And honestly, I wouldn’t really mind it. Though, to me, if I’m going to trade any of them, Samuelson makes a ton of sense considering how much he has been a complete disaster in his time with the Sabres. Now, he might be somebody the Sabres have to package a pick or something to get rid of, which I don’t think is something the Sabres necessarily need to do at this stage of how much cap space they are still swimming in, but at the same time, Samuelson just hasn’t been good for the Sabres team in a while. He’s been okay in more of a physical role and a very, very depth role when he has played there. Really, the injuries have been a big reason why he hasn’t been able to fulfill that potential in Buffalo, but I really don’t think he was worth that contract in the first place, even after a couple of decent years that started out with the Sabres. It’s just a weird situation. Though I will say looking at the value that both these two players would command back, I think Byron is more likely to be traded and that’s maybe somebody the Saber should be more likely to deal in the first place. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Samuelson is the guy that they just try to get rid of to get under while they still can. Now on to the ninth player that I could see being traded still this off seasonason. We’re going to go on to another defenseman here. And if you’re looking for D, there are still quite a few options in today’s market. But I wanted to talk about Jamie Alexiaak of the Seattle Kraken because I think his job is kind of in danger right now especially after what we saw in free agency with a Kraken signing Ryan Lindren. A pretty similar player not as big but still a big bruiser physical guy at four years 4.5 million. And how much does JB Alexia make? 4.6. So basically the exact same range for a pretty similar player that would play a pretty similar position on the defense. And I think you know where I’m going with this. Now, there is the possibility that Seattle just goes into their season with a defense like this, having Alex on the second pair, Lingren as the third pair guy, having two pretty similar players in pretty similar positions, but I just don’t think it really makes all that much sense considering what Seattle has coming up in the pipeline. I mean, even as a depth defenseman, I think Josh Mahur is fine in that role, but they have quite a few young defenseman I think could end up taking that next jump and I just think could get a pretty decent opportunity on that bottom pair immediately. So, I think for Seattle, it’s going to be an interesting spot here to see what they do with that defense. I think in general some of their free agent moves have confused me. But if they trade Alexiaak because they signed Lingren, I think that makes that Lingren contract make a bit more sense, especially for Lingren. I mean, I think he’s fine in a third pair depth role. I think that’s where he should be playing. But giving him that term at four, four years, $4.5 million. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense for me to be have him playing what, like 15 minutes tonight, especially behind players like Dunn and Alexiak already. Maybe they have Lingrren in the second pair position then, but then to have a player like Alexiaak as a $4.6 $6 million defenseman playing on your bottom pair, too. It’s not the end of the worlds and Seattle still has some cap space to to work with, but at the end of the day, I think they want to be aggressive still this offseason and an Alexiak trade would certainly help that. Now, going up to the last player that I want to mention today and on to maybe the most interesting player on the list here right now in Isaac Howard, formerly of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Now, a situation that I think has gotten really overblown, Isaac Howard not wanting to sign in Tampa Bay because they wouldn’t guarantee him a spot in the NHL immediately. To me, I look at the options out there. I look at how much this process has been drawn out. And I got to say, man, I love Isaac Howard. I think he can play in the NHL next year and do pretty well. But just go to the AHL. You’re not going to be a perfect NHLer immediately. I just think in Howard’s case, it’s a bit of an ego stretch, at least to me. He’s a fantastic player for Michigan State has truly transformed his game over the last couple of seasons. I think winning the Obi Baker and I think being deserving of it this last year. 52 points and 37 games for Michigan State being really the driver of play all throughout that team all throughout the year. It was a ton of fun to watch. But it seems like in Isaac Howard’s case, he’s very likely to get dealt. In Tampa’s case, if they end up not doing anything and losing his rights, they’ll end up getting a competentary second round pick. But it seems like for Tampa, they want a late firstrounder in a trade, which many teams of course up to this point haven’t been willing to deal with the 2026 draft looking exceptional. I will say this though, even though the 2026 draft is looking really strong, I am a big fan of Isaac Howard. And if we’re just going off of talent and play since their draft years, I think Howard would be a top 20 pick in the 2022 draft looking back on things. So to me, I would be willing to give up a late firstrounder, especially if we’re a team like Edmonton that has been heavily rumored to be after Isaac Howard and not willing to give up that first round pick. I think Howard would be perfect on a ton of teams though, looking for pure speed, pure pace as a prospect, but also a pretty projectable game with how they play. He’s not a complete lackluster player defensively in terms of the effort. He’s still willing to put in some work there, and I think that’ll lead to a lot of success in the NHL. I still see him as a great second line pace forward, pace driver. And for a lot of teams, especially for a team like Edmonton, needing more youth, needing more depth, I think Howard would be perfect for that team. But of course, it doesn’t seem like Tampa is in a complete rush to trade him since they know they’ll still get some compensation even if they don’t end up dealing him. But at the same time, Tampa, he’s obviously not going to sign with you guys. So, just make the trade happen. I just want to see it happen because I think Coward could be really special. But we’ll see where he goes if he’ll actually end up in the NHL. It’s not a sure thing by any means, though I’m sure Howard wishes it was. But those are still some of the players that haven’t been dealt that I could still see being traded this off seasonason. Thank you guys so much for tuning in. If you guys enjoyed, make sure you hit that like button, hit that subscribe, and hit notification bell. 1. With the Free Agent board drying up, expect to see the Trade Market get HOT!!! What are YOUR thoughts on my 10 trade targets? And out of these players, who do YOU want to see YOUR favorite team trade for? #GravGang

  2. Bo to pens for Karlsson & 50% retained. Pair him with Dahlin.
Or just resign Bo for a 1yr ×7 mill . And pair him with Dahlin and give him the 2nd PP. Power sucks at it anyway

  3. Watching from the Habs digest side. I did not know there were other team Digests! I like this format 😀

  4. You may as well add McTavish on this list since it’s been “rumoured” that he wants out of Anaheim since he will supposedly be taking on a lesser role.
Not sure if there’s any substance to this or just someone trying to light something that has no fuel, but if he is available, you can expect Verbeek to take A LOT of phone calls from the other 31 teams.

  5. Dallas is going to have to add a 1st or 2nd round pick with Dumba to get any team to take him. Trading Robertson is probably the only option.

  6. Cam York for Marco Rossi straight up. I also think Philly could use Toronto’s 1st from the Laughton deal somehow into getting Isaac Howard

  7. Byram is comparable to Powers offensively and WAY better defensively Sign Byram long term. Trade Powers youll get a better forward. Powers is a 6’7” pussy as physical as a little girl. Other teams will bite. Because hes overrated. Not to mention Byram has way more valuable experience

  8. Rossi would fit best on a team with very tough winger on his line like Brady Tkachuk.
Would love to see TOR add Zacha ,usually think BOS wouldn't trade with TOR but they did last year so hmmm.

  9. You don't think a 30 goal, playoff performing, 2 cup winning either wing 1st line forward that plays PP and PK and is signed for 3 years at 5.1 would get a 1st??? Look at what 30 goal guys are signing for now, practically double that and it will be going up for the next 2 years at least. Every team in the league should be interrested in Rust and that includes the Penguins. If your rebuilding, hes a guy to show the youngsters, if yourbtrying to get better he will help move the needle in a lot of different areas, if your contending where do you get that impact that cheap? Dude, I think the price is prob a 1st AND a top prospect.

  10. Sounds like Ottawa has a deal on the table that the Flames would accept it's just a matter of if Andersson wants to come to Ottawa which it doesn't sound like he wants to and that's for the better I don't see the Sens need for Andersson personnally don't think he would be worth the price

  11. Byram creates a problem… I think the Sabres want to move him but for players they can use NOW… not picks.. and right now, teams seem to want to pick him up for nothing (AKA.. Picks).. also, I think the start of wanting to move him was for cap space reason which then when Peterka had to be moved.. Freed that up. They have the space to match pretty much any realistic offer…. and the unrealistic would bring back 4 first rounders anyways. They really would like some forwards and maybe another d-man to plug in.. preferably in the middle/top 6 level.. We'll have to see if anyone is willing to go there or even with the offersheet level.
