Something HUGE is brewing… | New Jersey Devils News

Something huge is brewing in Newark. We’ve got to break it all down. It involves Shimone Nemitz, but also I’m going to tell you about another friendly face that’s got to go. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Devil’s Digest. I’m your host Ryan the Goosker here with you. As always, having some fun talking Devils hockey. It is the off season, right? We promise to bring you all the latest, greatest Devils content as always. But first, I want you to be a subscriber to the channel. We need your help. Our goal is to get to 1,000 subscribers. I remember when we had like 10. It’s kind of nuts, right? To now be at this point, you know, where we’re asking, “Help us get to 1,000 subscribers.” That’s kind of crazy. I don’t even know if I know a thousand people, let alone a thousand subscribers. Help us get there and let’s get into the program. Now, again, I this is not like breaking news, right? There’s nothing super crazy going on, but you know, I did see this tweet and I found it rather interesting, right? here was just Scott Wheeler just out of nowhere, right? You know, just kind of on his own recgnissance, maybe on a yacht somewhere, maybe he, you know, sitting in an office, you know, just comes out and says Shimone Nemits breaks out in 2025, 2026. So, my thoughts, why not do a video on it, right? Because it it certainly could happen if you’re the Devils and you’re kind of hoping it does, right? because this team has a defensive pipeline clog issue right now and they really need a guy like Nemitz right with Kov Savage is going to miss the early part of the season due to that knee injury he sustained in the postseason last year so you really need somebody to step up and Shimone Nemitz this is your time I think this is the first year he’s coming in right couple years ago um I think it was 23 24 the down year for the Devils he kind of came in at spots because they really got hammered with injuries ies. Um, and even last year it really took a a huge amount of of need for him to come up and play with the NHL squad. This year it looks like as long as he can play the way I think we all think he can play, the way he played at the end, you know, at the end of the first round against Carolina with a two over the double overtime goal, he should be in the starting lineup come the opening game of the season. And it’s time for him to put his mark on this Devils team. it’s time to put up or shut up. He’s still a young kid, but you know, he had the comments last year, you know, how many, you know, second overall picks get stuck in the AHL, stuff like that. And again, while I can sit here and advocate for that, at some point, you got to come up and show it, okay? Because I I still remember clear as day that Winnipeg game where he had probably the worst third period I think a hockey player has had in the last 20 years. And I mean, anybody, it was brutal. Okay. So, he’s really got to step up this year. Um, and then the other part of this video that I wanted to do for everybody was kind of looking at the off seasonason. What what what do we look like so far? Because obviously we had the big rush on day one with all the signings and, you know, this breaking, that breaking, Jake Allen, all that stuff. So, you know, looking, you know, looking at what the Devils did so far. On the right is the subtractions from last year’s roster. Okay. On the left is the additions for for this year. I really did like the addition of Connor Brown. Um, again, I think, you know, he he had a good season last year. He’s a great on the penalty kill. Okay. I think he’s going to work well with Paul Carter down there um in the B in the, you know, in the bottom six. I think he could be, you know, a third line as well if they need him to. Okay. Bordaloo was was via a trade. Crook Shank, you know, that’s just a cool name to say. I mean, you know, that’s just fun to say. Lamo, who, you know, should should be playing for a spot. uh you know a couple other guys that are that are more AHL players. Okay. Uh that enough which was a great deal. One year $1 million with a ton of incentives in there. Um I think that’s a you know great get for New Jersey. So and on the right I I don’t think there’s anybody that anybody’s losing sleep over losing except you know we have gotten some comments I will you know I want to give credit where it’s due. Some comments about the loss of Brian Dumalan and how he was like an iron man for them last year in the postseason. You’re 100% right on that. Devils just weren’t going to be able to pay him what LA paid him. So, uh, we knew he was kind of out of here. Hitaka signed overseas. Same thing with Tatar. So, um, you know, I think Nolan Foot ended up in Florida. Hall obviously traded. Curtis Lazar went to Edmonton. Okay. So, you know, these these guys got to spread their wings, right? But I I say this to say this, you know, and here’s what the Devils did. They ressigned Allen, Cody Glass, Chalowski, who who cares if they resigned him. Okay, what I will say is the Devils still need to make a move and I would love for you to comment on this video. Let me know what you think that move needs to be. But the Devils still need to make a big move. And that’s why I put Pot in the intro video because he’s the one that’s got to go. Okay, the Devils have just under $7 million in cap space. Luke Hughes still hasn’t signed to a contract extension. Although Tom Fitzgerald said that’s his number one priority, now a GM that says the team’s going to look completely different next year because this wasn’t good enough. His top priority being a resign. I don’t know what you make of that. I don’t particularly like it. I know we don’t have a lot of big Tom supporters in here. Okay. Um but first, you know, again, they they’ve still got to get the Luke deal done, you know, and they still need a big move. So, you know, I know a name like Jason Robertson from Dallas has has come up. He’s going to be a one-year rental. What is it going to look like in order to get him out of Dallas? Uh, you know, comment on this video. Is that something? Is that someone or some something or someone you would like the Devils to go after? Because I certainly would. And the Devils need they need a shakeup and Palot’s got to go. I I’ve said this since the season ended. I’ve said this probably while the season was going on. He can’t be a devil next year. And each passing day, it feels like he’s going to be. And I have to tell you, that gives me nightmares. It scares me because he shouldn’t be a Devil next year. He doesn’t, you know, he came in here, he he was a playoff performer in Tampa. And I remember I used to play his game-winning goals on my radio show and everything like that. And he was awesome and a great playoff performer. and he’s come here and it’s just it just hasn’t been good enough. It doesn’t warrant a $6 million a year cap hit. So, New Jersey has to find a way to get Andre Plat out of town. So, just to recap, Shimone Nemits expect a big year out of him. According to Scott Wheeler, again, I don’t know where he is. Maybe a yacht, maybe an office, you know, maybe on vacation with his family, but he says Shimone Nett’s gonna have a breakout year. This is the year for Shimone Netts. got to show up and he’s got to prove that he can be an NHL or night in and night out, especially with Kovvich being out initially. This is a chance for him to really, you know, put a thorn in GM Fitzgerald’s side of like, hey, you know, we might we might need to play this guy a little bit more and, you know, find a way to get him in in the lineup or his trade value skyrockets and the Devils are able to trade him for a big piece. So that’s really what Shimone Nemits is to do. We recaped some of the Devil’s additions and subtractions. Again, they still got to get Palot $6 million off the books. That’s got to be a they a that’s got to be the top priority if I’m and I guess Tom can’t say that to the public, but man, that’s got to be that’s got to be priority number one is getting him off the books. Somebody brought up getting Mcdermad off the books as well. That’s $1.15 million a year. doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you’re, you know, pinching pennies and how close contracts are going to be, you could always save $1.15 million. It would be nice and try to move uh Curtis McDermott elsewhere. Okay, so I don’t know. It’s interesting. Lot to go on with this Devils off season. I hope you stick with us. Hope you stick with the channel. Again, we need your help. Get to get to a thousand subscribers, okay? We’re over that 500 plateau. We got to get to that 1,000 mountain, okay? So, we appreciate everybody. I appreciate you for listening, for tuning in. Aiden’s done a great job and uh we’re going to keep it rolling for you this this off seasonason. So, any moves that the Devils make, we got you with videos and and keeping you up to date and having some fun talking and chatting with you. So, leave us a comment on this video. What do you think of Shimone Neutz? Like, do you think he’s set for a big next season? Who would you like to see the Devils add still? And where would you ship Andre Palad? I’m not even going to go. Would you ship Andre Palad out of town? Where would you ship him? Which team would you trade him to? Leave us a comment. Love, love hearing him. Love listening to him. Love reading them. All the above. Appreciate it, ladies and gentlemen. We’ll catch you next time on Devil’s Digest.

  1. Luke is going to take 6.5 to 8 million a year. They'll have to trade Pally to get that under the cap. Maybe they buy him out but he's seems like a goner

  2. To have Dallas give up Jason Robertson that will take a lot. It will be a package of 2026 1st, Mercer, and someone else. They will ask or demand Nemec in return most likely. If Fitzy can have enough cap space and trade Palat and have Dallas trade Robertson for no one huge will be awesome. I can see Palat traded to Anaheim or another western conference team that would be willing to eat all the cap.

  3. The only thing we can do is stay the way we are. Prove it or be traded! Nothing else needs to be done. Palat can be a 4th liner…lets just put a good 4th line this year.

  4. You had me hoping there was something really happening, but you gave us nothing! Why would I subscribe to a channel that promotes one thing and delivers nothing? Infuriating!

  5. I think Mercer is gonna have a bounce back year. Think he's gonna add muscle in the off season and make a bigger impact next season
