The COLLAPSE Of The Boston Bruins #nhl #hockey #bostonbruins
This is Don Sweeney, and no GM in the NHL has more on the line than he does. After a very disappointing showing from the Boston Bruins this past season, Sweeney needed to have a perfect off season to help the team retool. First was the draft, and I think we all can agree that he did a pretty solid job acquiring new players, specifically James Hagens with the seventh overall pick. But the draft was only the first step in this team’s offseason retool. The second was free agency. And let’s just say Sweeney made some pretty questionable decisions. In my eyes, the Bruins needed top six help. Whether that be a firstline center or a second line winger. And what did they get? Depth pieces. Really? Sweeny’s big moves this off seasonason have been met with a lot of criticism. He signed Tanner Jano to a 5×3.4 contract and Victor Ardinson he acquired through a trade with Edmonton. two guys who will be making around 7.5 million to likely play third line minutes. Combined, both of these players scored 40 points last season. And what makes this hurt even more is when you consider the fact that the Bruins traded Marshand, who only wanted 7 million per season after scoring 51 points and added an additional 20 in the playoffs. Not sure how Bruins fans are feeling at the moment, but one thing is for certain, these players need to pan out or it might cost Don Sweeney his job.

I still can’t believe they got rid of Brad
They should have fired him… TD Garden would just experience a disappointing season after The Cs might be tanking
It was a mistake to fire Montgomery and It was a mistake to trade Marchand and McAvoy
As a life long Bruins fan, Sweeney is a liability and has underperformed especially compared to NHL GMs as a whole. The only reason he’s still employed is because he has openly been BFFs with owner Cam Neely for decades, he has a boys club insurance policy and will never leave.
He ruined the culture of the Bergeron-Chara era by overpaying depth players, and hasn’t learned (just look at the Jeannot contract). What made the previous Bruins team so dominant from 2010-2023 was that culture, Marchand and all the other leaders took pay cuts to help the team as a whole, then when Pasta and Mcavoy came up he gave them even more then he gave Bergy and Chara which lowered morale. Ultimately ending in Marchand asking for a very high payout to stay which we refused and traded him to Florida for. Which of course he ultimately may have deserved with the way that guy play. He will always be my favorite player, more heart than anyone in the league.
They don’t need a retool anymore, it’s time for a rebuild, just accept it
Sweeney is an idiot
Fire don
The pasta thumbnail is diabolical
He’s a dumbass
Isn’t it obvious? There’s a couple GM’s that are aiming for the McKenna sweepstakes, but trying not to be obvious, by adding pieces that obviously don’t help the team. Sweeney is one of them.
Sweeny needed to go 4yrs ago
Bruins fans have wanted Sweeney gone for a long time, he took a roster that could have been a dynasty and squandered it
Then gave away the farm to try and save it which didn’t work so then he gave away the core to prepare for the future
A future that is now even father away after these moves
It will be 10 years before the bruins are competitive again, and it will be Sweeney fault
Tbh, all the moves are fine, Arvidson we can flip at the trade deadline for like a 2nd and prospect, maybe even a first, if he gets past 25 goals, other depth guys are fine, we need some veteran presence, so Kuraly and Eisimond are good moves…that said, i just cant understand the term on Jesnots contract…nad the NMC?? Why, just why. Other moves are fine, as i said, Blümel could get top-6 minutes, with PP time and really get it going, but im afraid, none of our young guys (Poitras, Minten, Lysell, Merkulov, Blümel…) will get the time they need and deserve.
What about …… Kevyn Adams?
His job better be unsecure
lol. This is what happens when you get too used to having the best two way player in the history of the game. They were always just an ok team without Bergeron. Only above average with him. Sure they got lucky for a couple cups, but undeniably they were never really built to be a perennial contender. Say the likes of Florida, Colorado or Tampa Bay. Edmonton is following the Sweeney plan right now. How that working out for them?
The pick FELL to him in the draft. I could’ve made that pick.
The guy has to go. Cam too. Need a fresh start.
As a bruins fan born and raised in Boston I'm losing my fucking mind
When he signed Lindholm and Zadorov to those ridiculous overpay contracts but wouldn’t pay Marchand, he should have lost his job then.
He needs to go!!
