  1. Roy might be the odd man out, but if they are going to go out and get a 2C before the trade deadline, the major pieces will be some combo of Beck or Kapanen, Struble and a first round pick.

  2. Bedard and Roy were on a line together at the World Juniors and Bedard called him the best player he ever played with. I can see Chicago having interest

  3. Joshua Roy is another pick from the Bergevin era that the current GM’s will not favour over their own picks.

Sadly for him, he just didn’t stand out enough to force them to keep him on the roster. plus being a 5th round pick was another hurdle to overcome for him vs giving a chance to earlier picks. We will never know his ceiling here in MTL but we know his floor. Players that will be ahead of him that have not played their rookie season yet:
    Demidov, Hage, Beck, xhekaj.

If he had been a top pick from this management, and had the opportunity that Slaf had, maybe there is a world where he would already be on the team.

Players drafted later, need to have that extra something that make them standout. (Specially if they have not been drafted by current management) Roy does not have that vs some other prospects ( not that big, not that fast, not that competitive, not that great defensively or offensively) and it makes him expandable. Even RHP was more noticeable than him during his hot streak in MTL (14 goals in 34 games), and MTL chose not to keep him as a RFA.

I could see him getting a trial in Chicago playing with Bedard since they seemed to have chemistry in the world juniors in 22-23 when he even bested Shane wright in scoring.

  4. Bryce Pickford had 33 goals in 66 games this year. Zayne Parekh had 35 goals in 66 games this past year. Parekh is actually 2 months older than Pickford.. Parekh is a future NHL player maybe even a star NHL player. Pickford definitely has a lot of offensive skills to score so many goals. As much scoring touch as the best CHL d-men this year. Maybe he's another steal for the Habs…Let's hope so.

  5. I think it would have been better not to play Roy this past season. His play is kind of lazy, like his reputation suggests. It would have been an easier sell if his NHL play was unknown.

  6. Roy hasn't shown the compete level, hitting, speed, which was apparent with Laval tanking in the final. That threw a shadow over the squad leadership, and the coaching. Still, the Habs have great prospects Hage, Thorpe, Paupanikis, Harris, who have to do a stint in the AHL and try to wrestle a chair in the show.

  7. Would be nuts to trade Roy right now. Look at the lineup you put up!! You mentioned Anderson and Gallagher will need to be replaced. But Laine will be gone, Dach will be injured, and who knows about Kapanen being an NHL player. So that's very likely FIVE spots to fill from our talent pool. (Which btw took a major hit the past couple of weeks…we're not that deep anymore to be trading NHL level prospects).

  8. 2nd powerplay will more like Suzuki, Demidov, Bolduc, Hutson, Dobson (suzuki and Hutson playing both 2 min.!)

Bolduc as a dumper way before Gallagher on the PP!!!

  9. Paupanakickin butt! 😂 love it Jesse! On the PP 1 I see Caulfield in the one timer spot on the left. They need Demidov and Hutson skating around spraining defender's ankles and creating passing/shooting lanes. I do not see Roy on the team much longer. We have prospects with the same scoring potential but they play more physical. Roy is a perimeter player and rarely goes to the tough areas. With the acquisition of Zharovsky and Mooney Roy is in the same situation as Mailloux was, expendable to fill a need. Great show guys! Keep the faith and Go Habs Go!
