The Hurricanes didn’t land a serious free agent, but they did acquire a top-4 defenseman in former Rangers blueliner K’Andre Miller.

We got fleeced by the rangers
I think Miller played right wing as a kid. Should be able to switch
I would have been fine with the picks but giving them Morrow was a lot. And given his last year Im a little concerned about the length of the deal. With the Cap going up over the next several years the amount will be fine if he pans out
The potential is there for K'Andrea to be very good. We won't know for a couple of years if this trade was a good deal. That's usually how trades work. Praying a new team and situation will help him to get back to his game.
Miller is being overpaid Period. So he should make more than Slavin? This contract is a Joke
I do wonder why we sign everyone to max length deals before we get a couple of yrars to see what they can do. For Stankoven with the cap going up a 6 million deal should be what like 3-4 million dollar deal is so should be a good deal and potentially moveable if need be
Just dumb
Miller will be the new Brady Skjei, Rangers had bad vibes this past season I bet Miller will take off on Canes
I dont understand all the hate. Canes upgrade from Orlov/Burns to Nikishin/Miller and you still all complain. Canes aren't even done with free agency and trades yet. Relax and give GMET some time.
Gold you know less than nothing about Hockey! You constantly talk out of both sides of your mouth. Miller is total trash and the only reason you like him is you agree with his liberal politics. Comparing Slavin to Miller is a joke and there is no comparison.
Miller sucks big time Rangers Fans are glad to see him go.
I'm cool with it. I think he'll do much better in our system over theirs. Not like the Rangers are known for a solid defensive system. I trust Rod/Tulsky/the rest of the FO to know what they're doing.
Do we really know that he wants to be here?
Where was Scott Morrow 3 years ago wasn't that High School how many right-handed defensive men in the system do we have now that are real good at the HL or AHL level
Everybody that's watched him has seen Elite skating ability I guess they don't have the Keen Eye you do
How many coaches did Miller have in NY? 4…that's a stable situation for a dman. Lol. NEw.York is a dumpster fire. He will flourish in Carolina, we are stable, know how to develop players, and RBA will turn him into a great asset. Thank you NY, tend to your dumpster…😂
The main problem I have is that we have too many LHD. Statistics show that playing the off side is going to make you worse. That said, Eric Tulsky is a genius and I am not. Let’s see
You look like you have lost some weight.
Really appreciate your doing these Adam! After spending the day reading the freaking out of Twitter and Reddit, it is calming to hear your level-headed approach.
I have seen every NHL game played by K'Andre Miller. He has never played on the right side at any time. He is a big tall guy who can skate well. However, Miller is not an offensive player or a good defensive player. Miller didn't play defense until high school. He doesn't process the game very well. He isn't a physical guy.
The grass is always greener from your side of the fence. K'andre does not use his size or his body. He is a stick check diva. He will 10 out of 10 poke a puck before he takes the man. Not a great passer with TONS of giveaways. If he lives up to this deal, it will most likely come from his offense. He has never gotten a real chance to contribute on the power play in his career. A steady role with a steady coach like Brindamour should boost his confidence. Big and fast, and if he ever develops a killer instinct, he could be a steal. Quiet guy who won't stir the pot, he will fit in well.
I just hope he plays up to his potential, unlike another albatross the Canes locked in long term who hasn’t. And I hope Tulsky didn’t give him a No Move Clause.
People need to relax. Miller will grow and become better with Aho, Nikishin, Svech, Jarvis, Blake, Stankoven, Jankowski, and Jost, we will be dangerous in a few years. Be patient
I just don't think this is the move. I'm just an armchair coach but I don't get it. This feels like a huge risk to me. I'm curious now if they're just waiting until next off-season because that UFA pool is insane. But even then, this contract makes no sense to me.
Sad to see Miller go. Extremely talented player who needs to work on consistency and effort at times. Could definitely see it work out big time for the canes. But honestly much more of a return than I expected for him. But Rangers are a mess right now. So who knows what happens next.
This is a terrible deal. I watched a lot of Rangers games last season (Sam Rosen's last year and all) and Miller was exposed as a low IQ, mistake prone mess. I would have been disappointed if they just gave Miller this contract as a UFA, but to give up a King's Ransom for the privilege of signing a player that the Rangers had absolutely no interest in resigning. I'm confident that we could have gotten a better, cheaper option on the D-Line. Now, we burned a lot of trade capital that could have been used to help improve our awful second line. What a mess.
Good lord, stop saying that Ehlers is "like" the other wingers we already have. Concerns about the small sample size of his playoff results are overblown. Ehlers is head and shoulders above every winger we have other than Jarvis and Ehlers brings things that Jarvis doesn't (speed, puck handling, etc.) We desperately need more top six talent and Ehlers fits the bill. Yes, we need a better 2C but that doesn't diminish the fact that we need better wingers on the second line as well … assuming we want to continue to be a top team. The hard truth is that after the Necas/Rantanen debacle settled down, the Canes were a .500 team the rest of the way … and the current roster is worse now than it was then (because today Orlov/Burns > Miller/Nikishin … although that should change down the road). So, it we have to spend $9.5 million to get Ehlers, we should … even though we just wasted a ton of cap room on Miller.
Nikishin came into a difficult spot in the Panthers series and looked like a natural. He was calm, saw the ice clearly, and played the blue line well. How you think he should only play 3rd line minutes is a head scratcher. Sure he’ll need time to develop throughout the season, and adjust to the system but dude looked like he belonged on the ice. He had a few man on man struggles but other than that I’m not sure what knocks you saw.
The panthers just went back to back with 4 lefties so clearly it’s not that big of a deal. Miller is MUCH faster than Orlov, is younger, bigger, a better (did I mention faster?) skater, can put up some points and be defensively sound, and this contract is cheaper than Orlov’s plus the cap is going up $10 million per season. People need to calm the hell down, this is an upgrade and a long term one at that. He’ll improve in our system, we’ve gotten the best out of our blue line for years now, look at what happened to Skjei when he left. If Miller turns into a 50pt 2 way beast, then sign me up
Rangers get the better of the first round picks
If the guy is returning to his old form a year ago, then this is a B deal. If he plays like last season, then it's a way worse than Orlov deal. It is generally fine for a cup team to run one off-hand dman if these dman are good look at Florida for example but Miller isn't the guy for me personally. In general, this is a terrible mess by tulsky again, they should use Morrow to trade for a good centerman. Imagine you miss a Morrow for that Tage Thompson deal later in the summer or before next March. It can be the Bs Zadorov contract, while you get fleeced by Drury it is way much worse and stupidity if this guy does not pan out, tulsky's math isn't mathing at all
