Habs Trade Mailloux for Bolduc, ANY Chance for Nikolaj Ehlers?!
Montreal Canadiens trade defenceman Logan Mailloux to St. Louis Blues for forward Zachary Bolduc. Do the Canadiens have any chance of landing Nikolaj Ehlers from Winnipeg or even Andrew Mangiapane?
I really like the Mailloux for Bolduc trade. Best wishes to Mailloux (Merci Dvorak, Armia, RHP, Simoneau and Pezetta…Samuel Blais replaces MP) and Bolduc replaces Heineman, I would say it's quite an upgrade. I see Bolduc on the 3rd line with 2nd line potential, and I see him on the 2nd wave of the power play, being successful in the bumper spot (7 PP goals out of 19goals scored for the season), giving the PP yet another option (it will take some time to build chemistry but the PP (2 solid PP lines) this season could be the best yet with Dobson & Bolduc adds) but potentially allowing a player like Laine, more time and space from his favourite half wall spot. The ceiling for Bolduc is high, with his offensive numbers in the Q, but seeing his progression in only his 2nd NHL season (first full) as he added the physical aspect to his game, and note, he finished 8th in Calder voting. I like what Hughes has accomplished thus far…definitely calculated moves, trying to improve while patiently sticking to the "plan". I think it's obvious Hughes is always trying to improve the team's offence…however, I feel they have taken a step back defensively. I realize Dobson was a big add, but he is not known for his defence, and neither is Bolduc. Montreal lost shot blocking king in Savard, big lefty face-off wins from Dvorak, and PK prowess of big body Armia, and none of the new faces replace their defensive losses so I am a tad concerned…BUT, the summer is not over. I still would like to see the Habs add an experienced Center (a 2C is always the goal but not an easy add so a temporary add may be needed) and a depth defensive Dman (it will be interesting to see how the D chgs for next season. But the cap situation is tight (Carey Price $10mil LTIR most likely OR will they trade his contract post Sept bonus payment made?) As of right now, I see Guhle-Dobson, Matheson-Hutson, Xhekaj/Struble-Carrier. As for replacing Dvo's face-offs, as Hughes commented in his post free agency news conference, you try to fill a hole and you sometimes create another…and the Habs wants their wingers to work on their face-offs. I feel Dach is THE huge wildcard/question mark in this upcoming season. I feel if he can return healthy, in shape, and remain healthy for a full season, Hab fans will have a much clearer picture of this team moving forward, but with 2 serious knee injuries, I do have my doubts. And who from the Habs prospect pool is ready for some NHL service…Kapanen, Beck, Xhekaj, Tuch, no one? (Reinbacher & Engstrom are the closest IMO but they both need a full season as the "all situations" Dmen in Laval…one if not both will eventually see time in the NHL next season). And nice to see Alex Belzile return to Laval, excellent veteran add (future AHL coach after retirement is my prediction).
I cant imagine we can land ehlers. I was hoping on granlund but 7 mil is too much for him. Here's hoping dach can evolve into a legit 2C or we may be without a 2nd centre for yet another season
Resist temptation to overpay. Nothing against Nic Hague but a 12 point season landed him a huge deal?? Habs should be patient like they have been and wait for the right deal.
Happy Canada Day! I realize we need a 2C but why not wait until mid November and see how the various players are filling into their roles. If it is evident that Dach isn’t fitting the bill, grab a player from a team that realizes they aren’t going to be in the playoff running! I would think the options would be greater then. How many days is it until the regular season starts?
The move to bring in immediate help shows how hard HUGO ( let’s not forget that HUGES does not work alone ) work to move this rebuild forward. Of course Dobson was the big dream fish, but getting Bolduc from the Blues was just amazing. Gally won’t be around much longer and we need to find the two young 3rd line wingers to play with possibly Beck or Florian X or Kapanen in 2-3years. I am not sure what the hesitation is in moving Mathesson? With Carrier, Dobson and even Ghule, we have veteran leadership on the Blue line and Engstrom was awesome in Laval, so we have way too many lefties on the D.
8 teams gave out huge contracts last season. Only 1 made the playoffs. UFA is like going into Walmart and paying $30 for an apple and wondering why you're hungry.
Hughes instead is using his draft capital and declining assets to upgrade the roster. Habs don't need to give out $10m AAV contracts. We have a set core locked up for years. UFA is for depth. Nothing more.
Habs did good before and after the free agent frenzy. The draft was good , Bolduc is going to be a favorite. Dobson really solidifies the D. Maybe Reinbacher makes the jump but now has more time to tune up. The plan looks solid
There goes the next Alex Pietrangelo—to St. Louis, no less. The funny thing is, the Blues drafted the original Alex Pietrangelo. Thanks for coming out, Montreal…btw Logan Mailloux is not as soft as noah dobson as good as noah is……
You've got a really good young player. He's a tough kid and I'm surprised you haven't mentioned his one timer, because he's got a great one! Well miss him but we need youth on defense. Hope it works for both tems!
Mailloux was never going to stay in Montreal. There is a stink on him related to the manner in which he was drafted. It received tons of negative media in Montreal and that memory does not go away. Montreal new management handled it well, develop the player to make him trade attractive and move him to a city where his past does not follow him.

Bad trade for us
Happy Canada Day Drew!! Enjoy!
You in fact… did not do well on the prononciation!
5.4 mil Davorak! Not 4.5

You did perfectly well on Bolduc's name
I cant imagine we can land ehlers. I was hoping on granlund but 7 mil is too much for him. Here's hoping dach can evolve into a legit 2C or we may be without a 2nd centre for yet another season
For the pronunciation of his name, think "Duke". Unless you want to do like Gene Hackman in Unforgiven…"Duck I says"
Close enough on the pronunciation of Bolduc
Resist temptation to overpay. Nothing against Nic Hague but a 12 point season landed him a huge deal?? Habs should be patient like they have been and wait for the right deal.
Bolduc plays with grit and and can score goals and the perfect age. Pez sat on the bench 9/10 games. Who cares where he goes
Bolduc🎉 good prononciation
MY-YOU
Perfect pronunciation of Bolduc. 😉

Hopefully not a letdown like Dach… we'll see how this pans out
No thanks for Ehler
Sign Kuznetsov for $5M and trade Price to SJ after 9/1. Done.
Good deets Dekes!
Nice pronunciation on “Bolduc”! Well done!

Matheson Ghule
Hudson Dibson
Xjekai Carrier
Engstrom
By by Strubble
I think the fans are going to enjoy Bolduc who is fast, physical and has a sneaky good shot comparable to Heiniman.
Elhers doesn't like the spot light,…would never chose Montreal
Nobody this year is worth wasting cap space one. Next year much better.
Your dreams are nightmares to the big picture. Get a bet better and eliminating cap space screws next year.

I would be shocked, stunned even, if they were to pursue a big money free agent like Ehlers. I think they should stick to the plan.
Always liked Ehler. Goid skater, puck handling. Too expensive.
6'3" 22 y/o RHD D. Yes please. Blues can find another Bolduc. spoiler: He can't play center…well
Slaf Suzuki Caufield
Bolduc Dach Demidov
Newy Beauvillier? ( Openly said he'd like to play in mtl ) Laine
Andy Evans Gallagher
Ghule Dobson
Hutson Carrier
Xhekaj ?????? Maybe reinbacher but meh needs to play more
Monty
Dobès
Congrats on 7k subs
Bolduc hasn’t played C in 4+ years doesn’t make sense. Beck and Kapanen just let them both ride for 20 games
Your pronunciation of Bolduc is correct and almost no accent.
Habs did good before and after the free agent frenzy. The draft was good , Bolduc is going to be a favorite. Dobson really solidifies the D. Maybe Reinbacher makes the jump but now has more time to tune up. The plan looks solid

Garbage acquisitions
