Nikolaj Ehlers’ decade-long run with the Winnipeg Jets has officially come to an end. The dynamic winger is heading to the Carolina Hurricanes on a six-year deal worth $8.5M AAV. Andrew “Hustler” Patersonis joined by Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press to break down what this means for Ehlers, why Carolina was the right fit, and how the Jets move forward without one of their most electric forwards.
Ken dives into what went wrong (or didn’t), how Ehlers’ role evolved in Winnipeg, the importance of his power play impact last season, and whether the Jets were ever truly close to keeping him. Plus, the guys look at how this affects the roster heading into 2025–26 and what’s next for players like Cole Perfetti, Brad Lambert, and Kyle Connor.

Sad day 😢 you will be missed #27
Bad day in Wpg sports
Kenny's right, all signs point to: path to the cup + privacy/anonymity + a chance to earn L1 position.
We'll miss you, Nik. Good luck in Raleigh.
saddest day. what a player, he wasn't treated well until Arniel came. Hope he wins a cup!
Jets are a better team this time then end of season.
Frees up more cap space to re-sign Samberg and Vilardi.
Jets will be fine, lots of cap room, good prospects, move on
Jets not trading him wasn't the issue. The Jets giving him less time than Appleton was the issue. Thr Jrts missmanaged him and it was certainly time for him to go.
