  1. The Avs needed Burns because he can still play, especially on the 3rd pairing. I believe the Avs' locker room was broken last year and many new arrivals last year confirmed that without saying it openly. Burns can be our new Ray Bourque and the adult in that room to hold guys accountable.

  2. Looks like this year Avs are getting left overs from Carolina….Like two years ago they got leftovers from Stars….And it didnt work……This GM is lost and clueless…..

  3. I love it. He's going to bring the kind of attitude the Avs need more of. If the cost is really only 1 mill, that's an f'n steal. And enough with the trade Nichushkin and Necas talk. Just put down the pipe and get real.

  4. 1 million for 1 yr is unbelievable value.Especially when you see what guys barely better than him are getting like Lindgren,Ceci,Dumulin,Klinberg,& few others Granted they aren't 40 yrs old but 3rd pair caliber guys (or borderline 2nd pair if on weak bluelines) getting 3-5 times as much on multiple yrs.LA did that with Ceci AND Dumulin! Both decent #5ish guys in my mind. Id be pissed if we did that with EITHER guy-LET ALONE BOTH! These guys are marginally better than Burns if at all.I don't think Klingburg is better. Or solid but not great 2nd parish dudes getting 5 or 6 yrs,& paid like 6 or 7X as much.

After seeing some of this-Makar must be worth 200 million over 10 yrs-lol. After following this insanity in a weak dman field-when I heard we got Burns-I figured we probably signed him for 1 yr at 2.5 or 3 million per yr. He can make up to 3 million I guess with games played incentives. But let's hope he hits those-cuz only 1 million counts against the cap which is all that matters,& makes this a phenomenal deal,& great job by the AVS.Just like Nelson-I loved bringing him back,& especially for just 3 yrs. But I thought we over paid a bit. Turns out we probably got a deal. Not just on term but even price.

Especially when you see an inferior player(3C also not 2C)-like Granlund get 21 million over 3 yrs. He's also 34 not younger. But if Granlund got that-Nelson easily could've got 4 yrs,& at least 8 or 8.5 per yr you'd think for sure. Avs are being smart,& patient,& letting other teams panic,& over pay. We don't need to,& I think will end up upgrading with another trade. Even our guys-Id have brought Drouin back at like 2 yrs 5 million or MAYBE 6,or Lindgren probably 2 yrs 6 or 7 million. But not a chance for what they signed for. Id be pissed if we gave them what they got.

  5. The Avs have shown over the last several years that they are not big in the free agency thing. Aarif Deen at CHN pointed out that the last free agent they signed for $4 mil or more was Ian Cole. I still think there is some sort of big trade in the works that will catch us all off guard in the next few days.

  6. Many years ago, my father was an All-American baseball player for a decent college. His name is still the same…but I doubt that school would even call him to coach right now. Maybe you get what I am saying.

  7. get rid of manson for picks put burns woth sammy g middleton malinski 3rd pair and use mansons salary for a drouin replacement?

  8. let me tell you guys, I don't like it. I LOVE IT. When I see guys like Cody Ceci and Ryan Lindgren are getting 4.5M in this free agent class and what's left isn't great, I LOVE THIS MOVE! 1M against the cap for a guy who hasn't missed a game in forever and talking to Carolina fans he was their best defenseman in the playoffs this year. He's their highest scoring Dman and he still has a hell of a shot. What's interesting is, could this mean a trade for the Avs? The Avs have four on the right side and two on the left now. Could Manson and his 5M be on the way out the door? I like what the Avs are doing.

  9. Put Middleton on the 4th Line Wing. The Ads desperately need a Sheriff to though hits and knuckles to keep other teams with high elbows and loose knees honest.

Gauging Burns' year over year decay rate + his new team aggregate points bump; we can expect to see approx. 22-23 points from Burns this upcoming season, assuming 82 games played in bottom pair role.
