Montour: No State Tax Was Just A Bonus

“The No State Tax, after honestly I decided to go to Seattle was a bonus…”

  1. Does the no state income tax really make that much of difference when the property tax and insurance rates are outrageously high in place like Florida? Both Washington and Florida are considered to be some of most expensive states to live in

  2. Yeah it’s just random that he went from a no state tax to another no state tax, same random reason stamkos and marchsauellt went to Nashville from their teams and why mason marchment only agreed to waive his NTC to go to a no tax team from Dallas.

It’s all random players don’t even think about it.

  3. You got all these people saying no state tax makes a difference and it's an advantage to those teams have a MAJOR flaw in their "theory"………. if they take less money to go to those teams what difference does it make to them…….5 million in seattle equals 7 million somewhere else the player is only making more money if he takes the 7 million in the no tax state!!!!!

  4. But no one talks about Toronto paying front money in the form of a signing contract. Tavares got $70M of his $77M up front.

  5. People look at the tax advantage from the complete wrong angle. It's not an advantage in luring free agents there. It's an advantage in that they get to pay their players lower AAVs because they make more of their salary post tax. Do you think any of the superstars on the tax free teams would have signed for as little as they did, if they were signing with a Canadian team or a Cali team?

  6. Yeah just forget that he said Seattle was the only no state tax team that’s definitely not why he chose them lol

  7. No one talks about being paid in American and benefitting from the Canadian dollar being awful and living in Canadian cities

  8. Why are people constantly trying to convince us that it's not unfair. Yes I know tax free states were bad for quite some time. Florida is a PRIME example but that's hardly an argument. For the longest time, higher end and star players wanted to play in bigger hockey markets. If there's anything Bettman has done well in his career as commissioner, it was establishing these souther "non hockey" states as proper hockey markets. Tampa was kind of the first dynasty like team to emerge and since then, we've seen players take an interest in playing for these clubs. Add a tax free system into the mix and you have the means of signing more high end players at a cheaper AAV and remain under the cap. This piss poor argument that it shouldn't be considered a factor is getting pretty silly at this point. If it wasn't a factor, it wouldn't be a topic of conversation for all these NHL media outlets. Stop acting like it's not an advantage.
