I am personally so psyched to get Perry. He is a proven playoff performer, and he brings the front net grit that we were sorely needing. Never would have believed he would be a King, but I'm Stoked!!
I think Luc and Ken are fooling themselves thinking the Kings are anywhere near a cup contender, they need to be setting up the team for when Kopitar and Doughty come off the books. Last year we were one of the youngest teams that made the playoffs, yes we lost in the first round (Again), but adding Perry 40 years old, Dumoulin 33 years old, Ceci 31 years old, Forsberg 32 years old, Joel Armia 32 years old. Is this putting us over the top? Or just making us old and expensive?
And then signing Forsberg, really? 2 years? For 2.2 million? Why, if we have any real young depth talent, its at Goaltending. Id rather have Copley for the 1 million, and then maybe Portillo if heās healthy, then the following year 2026-2027 you may have Carter George like what are we doing?
First mistake Holland as GM has made. Corey Perry paid too much and too old. Hopefully they can deal him before the trade deadline and get younger. The rest of the moves Holland made on July 1 were good. The blue line needed help. Good job Holland.
So my team went from adding a weapon or two, to the laughing stock of the first day of free agency. We signed a 40 year old who every Kings fan hates. We signed two 30 plus year olds to multi year contracts, and a sub 500 backup goalie for 2 plus million a year. So let's say Perry scores 18 goals next year. That gets us what? The new defensemen add nothing offensively. A sub par back up Goalie that backs up Kuemper who gets hurt a bunch, and is coming off 1 good rebound year. Imagine what we added facing the Oilers again. Who makes a difference? It seems like our GM just signed a bunch of old Oilers at bloated contracts because he likes them. I don't know a Kings fan who is happy today. Our franchise has problems here. Even Rob Blake is probably laughing today. If Kings fans want a silver lining here, I guess maybe we have a legitimate 4th line now, but that's 8 or 9 minutes a game. I think to have any hope, we need our young stars to make a huge leap forward this year. Oh boy
