Look folks it sucks marner walked but unfortunately the timing of everything meant it was his contract up for renewal by the time they decided change was necessary. Marner will be missed but he made his choice, now we have to moneyball this ISH. You won’t find one player to replace him but 3-4 could while also bringing other intangibles to the table. They had too many soft high skilled players. They need the hymans and knies type players more then 4 high paid, high skilled, crumble when it matters guys. I’d have preferred one of the other two just because Marner I a hometown boy but the choice management made got us here (shanahan and Dubas) and nothing can be done about it now other then to move on and make the best of the cap flexibility

Wow, Michael Pezzetta, Travis Boyd, Bo Groulx. amd Vinni Lettieri in the aggregate are suppose to replace Marner? Leaf's are definitely not better today. In fact I would say they are significantly worse, and may be at risk of missing the playoffs all together. It's next to impossible to replace Marner, who may very well have been the Leafs best overall player.
As a Panther fan, sometimes the best thing you can do during a frenzy is just watch. The teams who waited today could be the ones who won out.

At this point after going 0-7 in game 7's since 2016, plus that absolute dogshit effort they put into the latest.. Who has ANY confidence in this team anymore.. WITH or WITHOUT Marner. Guarantee you he was asking 13.2m+/year for 5+ years from Treliving, but got to FA and found out 'no ones gonna pay me more than Rantanen'
Realistically the leafs did the best thing they could've done after how he treated negotiations last time.. Entitled self serving player. Matthews is up next on the chopping block.. With Mo following.. the only players remaining from the 2013-2017 roster. (At least Shanahan is gone.. guy f'd the team 3 ways to sunday while he was 'president'.. and probably stopped Treliving/Dubas from being able to trade Nylander/Marner for a GOOD return during Trade Deadline the last 2 years..)
Idk man, I'm pretty much burnt out with this team. They don't do anything about the terrible fans which give the team such a terrible reputation. We're the most hated team in the league and chase every player out who comes here. We didn't sign anyone in free agency not because Brad was holding off, but because all the dudes he did call wouldn't touch us with a 10ft pole… And "fans" complain when the players call you noise

So…. the Leafs are in a significantly weaker position than they were last year – is that what you are truly saying? Dude – you lost 100+ points…. in exchange, you have a handful of mediocre players…. AND? LOL… fkin leaf's fans…. you'll never get it. Meanwhile, Florida kept their core, including Marchand (whom they did not have for most of last season)…. give it up my dude. Toronto will be a "contender", at best….. Obviously, you'll make the playoffs but seriously? You think your team is "better" now than they were with Marner? OK…LOL.
I know not many people care but as a European I find it triggering, Time Stapleton had 0,6 PPG KHL career and his best seasons were still sub-.800, he didn't dominate anything. NHL fans blow it out of proportion so often, like every half-decent AHLer is a gift from the gods to the European leagues.
