No goalies, over paid defense in Nurse & Bouch. No improvements No McDavid.
I see him looking for a short term contract 2-4 years if the Oilers are lucky but more than likely he's starting to look at the exit door. Why stay when you know there's no chance your going to win.

Im irritated about the Boeser deal… Should have made the move! Should've traded Nurse and freed up all that wasted cap space and signed Boeser. just my opinion. They resigned Coin flip Bouchard which basically means we will either see more slap-shot magic or more turn overs right in front of our goalie…. what a loss today was..
Why stay far away from Carter Hart? He is definitely a better goalie than Skinner. If he is found not guilty, I would love to see him in Oilers uniform.
Happy Canada Day Everyone. Lost Perry (5th most productive Oiler in the playoffs) and Kane, Brown gone. Klingberg gone. Got some AHL talent back. Right back to "Stu is our guy". Pickard should say "F this, I'll go play on a club on the way up who can use a really good goaltender rather then stay in Etown and get shet on as I save Series'. Wow Jackson/Bowman sure know how to destroy a contender. Unless they pull off a series of phenomenal upgrades with the cap space, you can count MCd Gone.

I have no issue with Hart if he is found not guilty. There have been many reclamation projects in Oiler history that worked out . Hopefully Bowman has a plan that will work.

LA took much of Edmonton's grit from 2 years ago and added to LA. I'm a huge Oilers fan…but LA will beat Edmonton if they meet in next year's playoffs unless Bowman can work some magic. It's not looking good.

So sad to see Corey Perry gone. Oilers should have signed him. If Cory Hart is signed by the Oilers that would be the end of this team as we know it. There would be as much or more opposition as when Stan Bowman was signed. Bowman obviously would have no problem with what happened with Cory Hart.

Lets be honest. There isnt many good players out there that were actually reasonable to fight over. And not give away tons of years on contracts. We dont esnt any 5-8 year contracts that are over 4 million per year.
I think we know we need a balanc eof tough players and speed. Arvidson did neither. Brown was ok but he got his chance and penalty kill sucked this entiee year. Perry it is what it is.
None of those 3 will make or break us. Perry did great but that would have been Hyman getting those goals and maybe more anyways. Kane and Skinner whatever. Kane will be salty in Vancouvers crappy culture.
Im just worried about having a bad start to the year and overplaying our stars so they get tired for another runm or injured.

Sometimes the best time to pick up a goalie is in the first couple months of the season. So if we do bad there we can make some changes.

Interesting to see NBA. Milwaukee waived Lillard and his huge contract to keep Giannis. And signed a 100 million guy in Turner. That got to be a player like Giannis pressuring rhe team to do something or hes leaving.

Looks like Ken Holland had a pretty good day. Bad move letting him go. I'm sure he's not finished either. Bowman signing minor leaguers. Letting Broberg and Holloway leave for nothing has already bitten the team in the ass and will continue to do so over and over and over. Bowman can trade McDavid to LA for Jimmy Carson.

That's a lot of free money to do with. Mangiapane scored 35 goals in 2021-22. He can score. Again, will he fit in? Hard to say.
The Oilers needed to make changes. Sounds like McDavid will re-sign and at the maximum salary, whatever it is. He's worth every buck too. He played so-so in the 2025 playoffs. Playing so-so means they didn't win the Cup. Not his fault, mind you, but again I think they need to have a terrific start to the season and they didn't do so in the last two years. If they can go 15 games without a loss like the 1984-85 Oilers, well they were 12-0-3 as in 12 wins, no losses and 3 ties, then who knows. They need to prove to everyone they can start super well. They were terrible in both starts, the 2024-25 regular season and 2025 playoffs. They went down 2-0 against the King and came back. They prove they could come back but they also proved they continue to start terribly. Leadership was lacking in the Cup Final. The officiating was terrible, yes, but it wasn't the only factor that decided the Panthers would win. You can't start your back-up goaltender when the Cup Final is tied 2-2 and you're at home. That means the team in front of the goaltender will not play well, chances are, and they didn't. Did they have something like 20 or 21 shots in that game? Unless it's Gretzky and Kurri out there, you can't win with 20 or 21 shots. McDavid and Draisaitl simply aren't them, at least not yet. They need the leadership to come in many forms. One of them has got to be better coaching. Knoblauch needs some help from his coaching staff. You can't make any bad decisions when you still have a chance at winning the Cup. They were one win away from going up 3-2 in that series against Florida. Not saying they were going to win but as everyone knows, game 7 never happened. If the Oil had game 5 at home like they should have, maybe the energy they carried would have made it easier in game 6 in Florida.

If the oilers have less than 1 mil in cap space left, how and when will they sign McDavid to an over 15 mil contract?
25/26 season cap limit is 95.5 mil.
If the new core 4 will cost Oilers roughly 46 mil, that leaves 50 mil for the remaining roster in 25/26. Next year is McDavid new contract.
Edmonton next season will spend 42.2% of their cap on Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard. Pittsburgh during their heights spent 43.5% on Crosby, Malkin and Letang. It looks good and all, until we see that Nurse is also paid a high number which bumps it up to 48.5% of the total cap. We're paying 4 guys for half the teams roster. It's a damn shame because during the years 2017-2025 that number was no where near that high. It's like money just got laundered. We were paying guys like Josh Archibald and Gaetan Haas.
imo we can pay 3 guys that amount of money but not 4.
Actually I think losing all of these guys is for the best. Klingberg had moments but too few. Every time Brown did something – it felt like a surprise. And Perry was fantastic – especially in the playoffs – his goals literally saved us. But given who is on this team, we should not need Perry to save us. So tweak the game-plan against the rats to take advantage of our talent and we are good
