Tanner Jeannot Signs 5-Year/$3.4M Deal With Bruins | Instant Analysis
Boston Bruins Tanner Jano. I honestly I don’t know if there is a more Boston Bruins ass player out there than Tanner Jano. The um the early word out of Boston fans though is that hey the term sucks and so does the amount of money. But
we must reset our expectations.
Yes. But this
I don’t know.
I think I feel like this is the first one of the day. Most of them are what?
Yeah. This one is what? It’s too much. Too long.
Yes.
Like I don’t know how to spin it.
Well, you don’t have to. You don’t have to spin anything.
You don’t work for these guys. He’s older than I am nearly going to spin it is what we need to ask.
Yeah. Well, I mean, he’s a he’s a nail gun. Like, we we all know the kind of game Tanner Jano has. There’s always going to be that tantalizing, well, he scored 24 goals once or whatever it was as a rookie. it. There just is fleeting evidence that he’s ever gonna get back to that.
After that 24 goal season in 2122, which was a long time ago, he responded with a fivegoal season in 56 games, a one-goal season in 20 games. Injuries uh plagued him that Tampa Bay Lightning season and then 7 in 55, 7 in 66 last season with the LA
I did the math. He doesn’t have that many goals since like combined. 27 points in his last 122 games. If this pace keeps up, he’ll score roughly one. He’ll he’ll score roughly 60 points over this contract.
But the the good thing about Jano is that he’s still like what 22. Yeah.
Plenty of time to grow. Like he’s going to mature the player he is. No one he was one of those older rookie. Like I can’t for 24 goals. He had 41 points. Where did that come from?
It’s Josh Anderson light. It’s Josh Anderson like it’s
now Now here’s the thing. You need tough guys. He’s a He’s a big bastard. He’ll fight you. He’ll hit you. He hits violently uh as well. He’s just not a fun time to play against. Boston fans aren’t going to love this question. Why didn’t you just keep Frederick?
Yep.
And and the answer I I keep getting is, well, you got an asset for Frederick.
Yes.
Was the asset a third? Like what was it? Well, Frederick has the potential to play center,
at least the ability to play center. Listen, I have Frederick was awful. He was awful this past season. Dreadful.
I still really like him.
I still really like him. I mean, he wasn’t very good in the playoffs either. I think he was hurt the entire time. The two seasons before that where he scored, I think it was 31 and 40 points. He had 17 goals, 18 goals. I did a video on him recently. That’s why it’s all top of mind.
I think that is closer to what he is. M you take the two seasons a ahead of the one. It’s it’s more likely the one is the outlier and not the two. Uh or as some people pointed out like, dude, you could have extended Brad Marsh. I I doubt either party regrets how that worked out. It allowed the Bruins to bottom out a bit. They got James Hagen. But had Marian hit the open market, one of the teams that was expected to make a big play for him was the Boston Bruins, which I suggested, I’m like, “Wait a sec. He wants to go to the highest bidder. Boston has all the cap extended him in April. It would have cost him seven or eight million
right now. What they played for Arbertson and Jano.
Yeah. They basically could have paid play paid back.
I I would bet you all of Leo’s Graham crackers that you could not tell me who the Boston Bruins got back in the Trent Frederick deal.
I think it’s a third rounder.
A second. I want to say a second and a fifth. And was there a player?
Um,
oh, did Max Jones come to the Bruins or go to the Oilers? No, he went to the Oilers.
Mhm.
Shoot. So, who came to the Bruins there? Did they get a player? Yes.
Oh, this is killing me.
Ah. H. Who was it?
Peter Hoser. Fifth round draft pick. Technically, the trade was to New Jersey for Trent Frederick. Wow.
Oh, he was retained.
Who then flipped him to
the Edmonton Oilers.
Peter Hower.
Peter Hower, who was a fifth round draft pick. Like, what?
That’s what we’re talking about.
All right. All right. All right. No. No. Yeah, but the Oilers gave up a second.
Yeah. Yeah.
Who got better value? The Oilers on the 8-year Frederick deal or the Bruins on the 5-year Jano deal? I mean, neither of them are good. Who got better? But it’s I it’s far more likely that
Frederick uh because in terms of cap hit, I I think Frederick’s making a little bit more. He’s obviously got way longer term. Um I don’t know which one of them’s older. I think it’s Jano by maybe a little bit. Um but Frederick is just straight up when he’s healthy the better player.
Do you want the actual deal?
Yes, please. Yeah, cuz Peter it was then flipped to Edmonton and and the whole thing Boston acquired Max Wanner
a 2025 second round pick and a 2026 fourth round pick. Got it
for Trent Frederick. So a second a fourth and uh Wner and then So do you want that plus Tanner Jano or do you just want Trent Frederick?
Well, I mean a boat’s a boat but the mystery box could be anything. It could even be a boat, you know. I think I think Frederick had an awful season last year and that awful season is comparable to every season of Tanner Juno’s career except for one.
Mhm.
And that was that’s the problem
five years ago now. Like I I just don’t think I think everybody loves betting on Trent Frederick that he can be that player, but there’s so much evidence that he can’t be that player. And the thing that stood out to me was that the Tampa Bay Lightning gave up on him. And I feel like the
No, no, you said Trent Frederick. You mean Tanner? Tanner. Sorry. Sorry.
This is why I’m sitting here going, “Maybe they’re the same.”
No, no, sorry. Sorry. There’s so many names. Tanner Jano can be that player. Like the Lightning gave up on him for a reason. They paid so much for him. For them to just say, “Who cares about all those assets we sent to Nashville? We need to get rid of this player, recoup something, send him over to the Kings.” That to me speaks volumes about what this player will be. And I think Boston’s taking a bet, the same bet that the Lightning took way back when.
I don’t know if every Bruins fan is going to love Tanner Jano, but I do know uncles in Boston are losing in their minds.
Absolutely.
Cuz I mean, he’s going to beat the out of someone at center ice like home opener at TD Garden and I think everyone falls in love with him and and all of a sudden everyone stops being an accountant. Everyone stops being an accountant in the fall. We all get our fake degrees in July. That’s that’s how this works, right? But I mean, half a decade of a guy who’s going to be in his mid-30s by the end of this. Yuck. But he’s a tough, violent player.
Yes, he is a Boston Bruin at the end of the day.
Yeah. And they make Bruins. And the thing about the Bruins, at least traditionally in the past, they’ve been able to take these guys and they’ve been able to uh work with them on the things that they perhaps need from them. And you know, just knowing Boston Bruins luck, uh, they’ll be playing the Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs and next year and Tanner Jano will have like a MVP series. The Leafs have already beaten Tanner Jano in a playoff series. He was with the Lightning in 2023.
Wow.
Where are you ranking their forward group amongst Atlantic teams? Let’s have a gander. Well, Fraser Mitten first line center at least against the Leafs.
I h
there’s a lot of there’s a lot of may in there. Geeky, I love Lindholm. I’ve been on the record. I think that’s a bad contract.
I also don’t think this is how it lines up. Yeah, Pastnock is Pastnock. How do you not love him? Middlestat’s an interesting bet. Zaka has been good for them. Arvitzson is a bet and I’m not so sure on that one cuz he’s coming off injuries. Um,
I’d have Middlestat and Beecher switch.
Yeah, I like
that. Left side is a bit of a world to hurt, eh? Sharks owner John Beecher.
That’s right. Yeah. Uh, Kousnadov is okay.
President, sorry, president. Yeah, I mean it’s fine. Uh I don’t think it’s worldbeating, but I think the way the Bruins play can totally work with this and get them back into the playoffs. They have a crazy
I think so.
They have a crazy amount of center options. Remember that they this the Bruins sewered their own season last year by going, “Hey, Jeremy Swayman, we’re not going to give you 500 extra grand per year over the course of this deal. Actually, now that you’ve missed training camp, we will.” Like that that screwed them. Jesse, I don’t I don’t think this forward group gets you into the playoffs, but here, scroll up.
Yeah. Yeah.
Okay, there you go. The the decor when healthy is really good. And yes, Swayman, like Adam said, you build from the net out. Bruins are doing a decent job of that. And I mean, I don’t think they’re done.
Why did they do the Omar Corposalo deal? I just don’t get it. Like there I don’t know why they did the Linholm deal. I don’t know why they did the Omar Corposalo deal. I don’t get it.
Look around the league. You could probably get something for Corporation.
Well, maybe they should try that.
Honestly, you resigned Mikey DP Pro like Oh my god. Conor McDavid lining up with Ununas Corpusalo as his number one.
No. Retain on Corposal for a couple years. I’m serious.
He makes three.
What if he’s one and a half?
I don’t think you need to retain
this season at No, you probably don’t honestly, dude. Dan Vladar just got two years more than that. two years and more money than that. Moving Corpusal is not out of the question at all.
Even if like you take back Pickard who makes 1 point something for this season alone.
I would love that as a Bruins fan. Are you kidding?
Picker Corposal swap. You get out you get out from that money and you save what like 2 million bucks and they get their starting goalender.
I I like I think Pickard can give you good games whereas like Corposal can give you a good chunk of the season. Like listen before he was a bum. He was a highly soughtafter asset at the at the deadline. He’s he’s baby Bob, right? And they were they were together at one point. He’s hot, he’s cold, he’s yes, he’s no. He’s in then he’s out.
He’s up then he’s down. Yes. Katy Perry.
Yes.
Um plastic bag.
Popular artist.
Yes.
Um Corpos can she’s an astronaut.
I think be as good as a one
wasn’t at Jeff Bezos’s wedding. Jesus Lord, this has already been a long day. I think he could be as good as a 1B or 1A. He certainly hasn’t been that for a couple years.
Um, I think there’s some value there. I wouldn’t be surprised if they move him.
Or they could just keep him in.
I don’t think the Bruins are trying to lose. They’re going for it with this deal. And Jano is going to be a pest in that division against the the Leafs, against the Florida Panthers, against the Lightning.
Going to be mean. You nailed it, Jesse. Florida versus Boston games are going to be can’t miss. Yeah. Uh, Bennett versus all those guys. Kachchuck versus all those guys. That’ll be fun.
Are they playing the outdoor game?
Oh, I don’t know.
Probably Boston. I think it’s Boston. Oh, it might be Boston
against, let me guess, Chicago. Boston and Chicago. It’d be funny if we were right by accident.
Trade deadline. Trade deadline. Free agency coverage continues.

Bruins haven't been the "big bad" since horton was in the league. If I was pasta I would be livid
Why would you sign a stiff like this for 5 years
The annoying thing is the Traded Justin B. for Lauko who they didnt resign then sign this clow to a 5×3.4 is insane to me. Justin B is way cheaper and has more upside.
Waaaaay overpaid for Tanner Jeannot, he's worth $1-1.5 mil at best
I've seen Freddie make one big hit in his career.
The only logical explanation I can think is he’ll be a guardian for the young kids we call up. Poitras was injured on a big hit over the last year, and no one really came to his defense. It also seemed to spook him going forward. So this pickup is likely to defend Lysell, Merk, and Hagens down the line. Regardless, too much term/money
How many goals did Geekie have on the Kraken..?
I’m happy for Tanner. I liked him when he was on the Kings. Just his injuries kept him down. But he also playing on the 4th line.
Nope jeanott there to protect all our young talent good job sweenz
That frederick contract set the market for bad players. 8 years 30 mil. What is Edmonton thinking? It makes the Jeannott deal look not as bad
Freddy is horrible. He stopped playing intense physical hockey. Someone told him hes a top 6er and messed him up i think. Public Skate Freddy is what i call him. Watched every single game he played as a bruin and for the oilers this playoffs.
If dumb and dumber don’t get fired after all These signings I give up
Time to deal Pasta before the Trade Deadline
What’s funny is the Bruins traded Peter Hauser to the Oilers for Maximus Wanner, a 2nd and a 4th. So those are the 3 pieces they got in the Frederic (and Jones whatever) trade.
Hahaha knew I should have just waited cause Jesse got to it 😂
Boston fans are so dumb. they think our team can win with skill. LOL.
"Bruins fans are gonna hate this question but, why not just keep Fredrick"
As a Bruins fan, I LOVE that question. I would sell my left nut to be able to sit down in a room and ask Sweeney that exact freaking question. I can't wait to make the playoffs as a wildcard team for 2 years then the boysclub extends him for 4 more years because "oh well he brought us to the playoffs in a rebuild"
Un fa king real! Stupid signing…Neely gotta go
Freddie was unless quit saying how great he was , never body checks and if he keeps fighting he will get knocked out cold 🥶 if he picks the wrong guy . Give this guy a chance in 2 years years this contract won’t look as bad with the cap goes up .
Bruins and Rangers are so bad lol.
Jeannot needs to be case studied.
Adam thinking this roster gets the bruins into the playoffs is comical 😂 You realize they play in the Atlantic right? With MTL, OTT on the upswing, FLO, TBL, and your own, TOR. Lol. They're a lottery team. So are the Rangers, Penguins, Islanders.
Bruins trade away Brazeau and Frederic to get more consistent offense…to go give FIVE years to the same kind of dude? And an older version?
As a fan I’m depressed, we’d have been better off sitting out the offseason. Donnie and Neely need to go
The Bruins should trade Korpisalo and a 4th to Utah for Matias Maccelli. A change of scenery would help them both.
I just hope this year all players tank so that they send a msg to to the Owner FIRE SWEENEY!
Bruins fan here. Sweeney is filling out the roster with, and overpaying for guys he doesn’t care about long term so that he can say he spent to the cap. Yes it’s 5 years for Jeannot, but they’ll trade him soon enough. The bruins are punting on this upcoming season in hopes of landing some of the big free agents coming in 2026. It’s lame, but predictable.
So this is the best the Bruins could’ve done to better the team? Neely and Sweeney—-not surprisingly—-blow it again. Maybe their next move is to try to sign Ryan Reeves and coax Dustin Byfuglien out of retirement—-two players who are sure to help the B’s make the playoffs next year.😂😂😂
Guys, worry about the leafs and the curse of Harold Ballard! 😂
I really hope they don’t finalize giving arvidsson number 33…
You know he is going to be a 25 g player on Boston
Adam is going to eat his words on the Lindholm deal
As a bruins fan we need to fire sweeny into the sun
