The Columbus Blue Jackets have significantly strengthened their blue line at the 2025 NHL Draft, selecting dynamic defenseman Jackson Smith with the 14th overall pick.
Smith, a 6’3″ left-shot defenseman from the Tri-City Americans (WHL), is praised for his elite skating and mobility for his size, allowing him to excel in transition. He tallied 54 points in 68 WHL games and won gold with Team Canada at the U18s (5 points in 7 games!), showcasing his offensive upside and puck-moving ability. Combine that with his strong defensive instincts and physicality, and the Blue Jackets are getting a true “do-it-all” blueliner.

Great Pick!! I had him the 3rd Ranked Defenseman in the Draft! Only thing that had Mrtka above him was being on the Right Side!! This Kid is Gonna Be Good but on an already Crowded Leftside🙃 But With Carter Bear(possible Brindley Replacement in the pool) Going before him I think He was Best Available! Maybe we could've gone Ekland or Carbonneau?
