Montreal Canadiens trade Logan Mailloux to the St. Louis Blues for Zachary Bolduc (read description)

From the Canadiens website:
MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Tuesday that the team has acquired forward Zachary Bolduc from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for defenseman Logan Mailloux.

Bolduc appeared in 72 games with the Blues in 2024-25, recording 19 goals and 17 assists. The 22-year-old right winger ranked fourth in goals and first in differential (plus-20) among all rookies this season. A Trois-Rivieres, QC native, Bolduc was selected in the first round (17th overall) by the Blues at the 2021 NHL Draft.

Mailloux played 63 games with the Laval Rocket in the AHL this season, tallying 33 points (12G, 21A). The 22-year-old defenseman was selected in the first round (31st overall) by the Canadiens at the 2021 Entry Draft.

A trade between the St. Louis Blues and Montreal Canadiens has been announced.

The Blues are getting defenseman Logan Mailloux from the Canadiens with forward Zack Bolduc going to Montreal.

Mailloux and Bolduc are each 22-years-old. They were each first-round picks in the 2021 NHL Draft; Bolduc went No. 17 and Mailloux went No. 31.

On the surface, this seems like a trade for need or want; the Canadiens looking for a young forward and the Blues looking for a young defenseman.

Mailloux is 6-foot-3 and 213 pounds. He’s a two-time American Hockey League all-star. He has played in only eight NHL games, including seven last season.

Bolduc is further along, but then again, they say it takes defenseman longer anyway. The 6-foot, 187-pound forward had 19 goals and 36 points in 72 games last season. He has played in 96 NHL games.

Zack Bolduc was traded to the Montreal Canadiens by St. Louis Blues for Logan Mailloux on Tuesday.

Bolduc, a 22-year-old forward, had 36 points (19 goals, 17 assists) in 72 games this season, ranking fourth among NHL rookies in goals and led all first-year players in differential (plus-20). He had one assist in the Blues’ seven-game loss to the Winnipeg Jets in the Western Conference First Round and can become a restricted free agent after next season.

Selected by the Blues in the first round (No. 17) of the 2021 NHL Draft, Bolduc has 45 points (24 goals, 21 assists) in 97 regular-season games.

“I grew up as a Habs fan and now I have the opportunity to play for them, so I’m just super-excited, Bolduc said. “Obviously when I received the call I was a little bit shocked, but right now I’m more excited than shocked. So, I’m super-excited to join the Montreal Canadiens and I’m just looking forward to work with the coaching staff.”

Mailloux, a 22-year-old defenseman, has five points (two goals, three assists) in eight NHL games and split the 2024-25 season with Montreal and Laval in the American Hockey League. He was chosen by the Canadiens in the first round (No. 31) of the 2021 draft.

Montreal acquired defenseman Noah Dobson in a trade with the New York Islanders on June 27 for the Nos. 16 and 17 picks in the 2025 NHL Draft and forward Emil Heineman.
