The core 4 wasn't the problem. Dubas wasted most of Leaf's draft picks on small skilled players instead of role players. So the result was a massive lack of depth.

I disagree with all of this except for the fact that mitch is an elite player. Mitch was the backbone of the leaf team. Matthews is the one I wud have traded. Matthews hasn't put in a full season since joining the team, he's the glass man. I'm so done with the leaf organization. Vegas is not a major market and for Marner to go to Vegas vs Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston or New York is not good for the NHL. If McDavid leaves Edmonton, for the sake of the NHL, he needs to end up in Los Angeles, New York or Chicago.

What are you talking about – Marner has not ever produced in the playoffs so saying that Vegas has boosted its playoff performance with his is not exactly accurate. easiest job in the world is to be a sports analyst – never have to say anything with any accuracy.
These people complaining that Marner does not show up in the playoffs are dead wrong. He was a point per game player in the playoffs just behind Willie by a mere 2 points. Marner was an elite player for TLM and you Leaf fans are going to be crying even more now that you chased him away. The reality is that the top 4 players need depth around them and hockey is a team sport. The Leafs actually performed better than any other team against FLA and came the closest to knocking them out. You will not get this close for a long time now. Forget it.
