DEREK FORBORT SUFFERS BROKEN ORBITAL BONE, FILIP CHYTIL BACK AT PRACTICE
hey Conucks fans hope you’re well on this Sunday have a bunch of Canucks news to talk about stemming from practice at Rogers Arena today yes coming off the 3-2 loss in overtime the disappointing loss to the Minnesota Wild i was there at that game with legendary Andrew Chang we had a great time catching up and unfortunately we saw the incident between Jakob Trenan and Derek Forward yes that late punch when Forbert was laying on the ice being restrained by a linesman or referee and then Trenton came down with the punch from above and I guess the biggest piece of news today is we found out that Derek Forbert indeed has a broken orbital bone yes a broken bone around his eye socket which is horrible it means he’s going to miss many months not just the two games remaining in the season but he’ll be he’ll be recuperating and recovering from the injury for the next four to five months it’s a horrible way to enter the summer a tough tough year for Derek Forward already with the passing of his father earlier in the season so and I was at the game so of course I was really mad when I was at the game seeing what this transpired then I I do I’ve been reading the comments and seeing all the the breakdowns about the fact that Forbert may have hit Trenan when Trenan was on his knees so here’s my take and before anyone complains and say “Oh well you’ve never played the game at a high level what would you know?” You’re right i’ve never played the game at a high level i’ve never said I’ve played the game at a high level but I can kind of understand and kind of observe what’s happening yes Forbert did take two swings while Trenan was either falling to his knees or on his knees but one of them was right when Trenan was hitting his knees and it was a very very honestly a light punch to his his chest it didn’t even connect with his face it was more hit his his like his um his padding and then once Trenan was on the on the on his knees Forbert did do a lighter and it truly it was a lighter hit to his back so neither hit his neck or his chin or his cheek or his face or anything it was one to the chest and one to the back and yeah I think the first one was was hard to stop because it was right momentum it was right when Trenon was going to his knees the second one I think it was just reactionary but then Trenton kind of got up off his knees so it looked like uh another reason why I think the the probably uh I don’t mind forwards punches honestly and I’m just saying this cuz I’m a Canucks fan because um it looked like the fight was still going and then suddenly Trennan got Forward onto his back but then here’s the crazy part trenan then uh braces himself by putting his his fist on the ice and then comes up and then punches downward with all the downward force directly to Forbett’s face who couldn’t cover up who’s being restrained by the linesman making sure that his head probably isn’t going to get hit cuz when when Trenan did get Forbert down it looked like Forbert’s head bounced off the ice a little bit so my point is Forbert was completely defenseless and then Trenton punches down after bracing himself downward more force and directly into Forbert’s uh I guess it was his left eye socket horrible horrible horrible horrible so uh no supplementary discipline from the NHL which I think is a joke and I think it’s a joke that yeah that Tren got no supplementary discipline and that that he broke um uh orbital bone in in on on Forbert’s face so uh really really unfortunate so I I all the best to Derek Forbert who’s a UFA which is really interesting too um he’s a UFA so he could technically get cut by the Canucks or not resigned by the Canucks while he’s recovering from this injury so a story we’ll track but the biggest news once again is is Derek Forbert suffers a broken orbital bone and no supplemental discipline for Yakob Trenan and let me know let me know you guys in the in the comments if you think that uh what you thought about about it when you saw it happen last night and now that you know about Forbert’s injury and no discipline for Trenton uh maybe I’m a little biased cuz I’m a Conucks fan obviously but I still thought it was a very dirty play and the majority of people unless you’re a Minnesota Wild fan the majority of of analysts and commentators former players agents are saying a similar thing but let me know in the comments below would love to know your thoughts a couple other things from practice good news Philip Hedo was actually a participant in practice as some of the drills and some of the skating things wearing a non-cont jersey but this is obviously he’s not going to play for the rest of this season but this is sooner than I thought remember he got hit in March that Blackhawk game i was at that game when Jason Dickson drilled him from behind and um yeah it looked bad because we know that Hedo’s had four or five um concussions in his career rick Tocket has said on a couple occasions that Philip Hedo has said that this concussion feels different in a good way meaning like not as bad as as previous ones hard to judge right hard to compare them but uh the proof is in the pudding the fact that he was on the ice today is indeed a good sign so again not going to shoot suit up for the last two games um he’ll have his whole summer to to rehabilitate and to go through protocol but it’s a good sign that Hedo was indeed on the ice today not on the ice and not probably not going to play for the rest of the season of course is Elias Person we learned that yesterday that Rick Tucker will likely shut him down for the last two games a lot of talk can be made about him returning to form two years ago form and then having a big offseason including doing some training here so we’ll track that story as it goes and then a story about um Tach Demco also will be shut down for the season not a physical injury in terms of his body rather uh sickness illness so no point trying to ramp him up and have him less than 100% for the final two games of the year um but Rick did make a point of saying this is the first season in a few years where Demco has gone into the offseason not needing surgery on anything so hopefully this will be a really really strong weekend strong weekend strong off season of training and Rick Talk even mentioned that uh he hopes PY kind of sets up a routine sort of like he kind of alluded to Demco’s very very stringent um training routine regimen so maybe Pey can learn from him kind of hinting at that didn’t say that directly but that’s kind of uh what I got from Tockett’s words and then um so that means Lankin and they might not play on both you know they got San Jose on Monday they got Vegas in their season finale on Wednesday look to see Nikita Topppo in one of those games i bet you took place tomorrow against San Jose quite frankly and then you have Lankman for the for the fan appreciation night the last night of the season on Wednesday night finally Tyler Myers he’s missed the last couple games with injury looks like he um Target said he could play if they had to i.e fighting for a playoff spot or a position but instead what’s the point so he will probably be shut down for the season and that means one call up right we only had seven defenseman including Meyers one call up will come from the AHL so right now today at practice it was Hughes and no what did it was it was I think it was Mancini and DPD Hughes Heronic and Person and um No that doesn’t make sense it was some combination i I’ll looked it up before I started recording but uh but I can’t remember now but yeah no Derek Forbert obviously as part of that rotation so it was um oh sorry no there’s only five defensive what am I talking about it was yeah just Hughes and Heronic and DPD um and Mancini and Marcus Patterson were the were the five and then yeah Hughes Heronic Marcus Person Mancini and DPD uh Myers skated but not not in a regular pairing of course and then no Derek Forbert so that’s why yeah they only have five healthy um five plus Myers so that’s why they got to bring in a six guy so Ben Kuzma mentioned could it be Um JetWoo could it be Christian Wanan and then talk it was non-committal just saying uh no but they do got to bring up someone from Abbottzford so it depends if they want to keep Pey get DPD back on the left side they could now with Forb’s injury so you could go Hughes Marcus Patterson and DPD on the left then you have Heronic you have um Mancini on the right so you could call up a right-hander that means it’s either Jet Woo or Cole McCord or if you want to keep DPD on the right then you can call out Christian Wanan on the left or maybe even someone else off the board so we’ll see about that as well so there we go some updates on Forbert on Demco on Hedo on Person and Meyers all stemming from practice talk talking after practice today so Conucks fans let me know in the comments below what story lines stick out to you and in particular are you upset surprised what’s your reaction to this news one day after after Trenan um gave that late uh that late punch to the face of Derek Forbert let me Vancouver Canucks defenceman Derek Forbort has a broken orbital bone courtesy of the cheap shot from Minnesota Wild forward Yakov Trenin last night. As well, Filip Chytil was back at practice today as he continues his journey back from his latest concussion.

What did you think of the fight? And the fact that Trenin will not face supplemental discipline while Forbot recovers from a broken orbital bone?
All I can say "It's Minnesota, shouldn't expect less." They still have Ryan Hartman or whatever his name is.
Also them punches Forbort threw, a women can take them, that's how weak they we're also as you mentioned, the padding took most of, if not all the impact of them slaps. Quite stupid Trenin isn't getting nothing.
The NHL is a joke when it comes to player safety.
Broken orbital bone sucks! Too bad. Bad luck — borderline cheap, but stuff happens fast in a fight! Hard to hold back, tbh. Either way, in the old days the benches would have emptied. I’m not advocating that — different times, etc… BUT, if the League isn’t going to deal with this ( suspension, etc…), then players have to deal with it. Players should have swarmed that punk — line brawl maybe? Ultimately, where is the respect?
Tocc Should Of Told The Ref That He Wanted To Rag Doll Trenin
If Forbort Would Have Done That To Trenin Forbort Would Have Gotten A Lengthy Suspension
fighting is dumb. even mma and boxers dont fight bare knuckles because it super easy to get hurt like that.
Honestly, player safety should have something to say about a player taking a free shot on a defenceless player. When the ref ties you up, you’re off limits
give Jett Woo a shot
Good to see UClay
Trenin looked like a mad drunk when he threw his little tantrum at the officials and then the Canucks while he was getting thrown out of the game. Maybe there's more than meets the eye here.
Clay, I would love to interview you and get a lookback on the Canucks season and what fans can expect for the playoffs. To give an idea of my level of content, the following is whether Auston Matthews should have played in the 4 Nations Face-off, despite the injuries he's suffered during the season (recorded Jan. 9).

Hope you're doing well and that we can chat in the coming days. Cheers, Randy @vofcanada
Honestly seeing that Darnell Nurse got a 1 game suspension for a cross-check to the face of Byfield and Trenin didn't get anything not even a fine. Really makes me question the Department of Player Safety. Yes the cross-check was bad (not saying it wasn't) but compared to the punch on Forbort, that led to a broken orbital bone is most certainly a joke. How can one have supplemental discipline and the other doesn't, just doesn't make sense to me at all.
I hope that the team remembers this next season. Everyone on the team should run him . Just a reminder of sins past.
The suspension souls match the length of injury. Why have they not did this??
