Pat Maroon slash on Josh Manson: Tough Call Suspension Recommendation

Pat Maroon was irate after what he thought was a missed penalty call that instead turned into an Avlanche lead.

That doesn’t justify this type of behaviour.

  1. Lol tampons can keep crying. Suprised they didn’t call any penalty on the bolts when they kept barking at the ref. There was at least three penalties on that play.

  2. IMHO he also should have got immediately thrown out of the game. That was an obvious "Intent to Injure" penalty.

I know that the season is over, but I REALLY hope DoPS responds to this, as this kind of thing has no place in hockey.

  3. I’m not a hockey player. How is slashing different now than when players used wooden sticks? Illegal play? Yes. Slashing a guy on his shin guard? Six games? Should there be penalty mitigation based on player injury? I know the point is to remove dirty play entirely, thus harsh penalties might deter players (or force coaches to demand players change).

  4. I think the nhl should make a new rule for the amount of time between goal scored and puck drop. It seemed like a strategy to have the players badger the refs for some time, then explain to the coaches, all the while the bench coaches and front office are scouring replays looking for anything. It really took away from big, momentous periods of plays.

  5. Guessing you'll talk about the manson bellemare tie up. Looked like a guy desperate to draw a penalty. Bolts got suffocated by the avs and they didn't handle it well. Not that anyone would

  6. Dude thinks he's an elite player. What a joke. He riding coat tails of the talented players. He's like that parasite in the fish's mouth.

  7. officials are part of the game too. calls and non calls and bad calls are a part of hockey. it is a fast paced game and watching in real time 10 players and different lines on the ice is very hard. i recommend all players try officiating for a season or two

  8. Should have been at least a minor penalty called for slashing.
Tampa utterly lost their composure……and any chance of winning the game.

  9. That's the kind of play where I would really like to see the rule implemented that if the other player gets injured, the player committing the infraction will get suspended at least as long as the other player is injured.
Sure, this can be abused and teams might keep out a player longer than necessary because the player who got suspended for it is deemed more valuable, but the easy solution to that is "don't do that shit!".

  10. 2 suspendable offenses and the bolts fans complaining about a the "missed" Bellmare holding Manson's stick hooking penalty and the Colorado with 6 men and Tampa with 7 men on the ice no call. Tampa was almost a – in the +/- for their PP which is bad.

  11. Maroon's actions were harmful to the integrity of the NHL, and he at least should have gotten a non-sportsman like conduct. Hitting a guy, and slashing him hard enough to break a stick after they scored shows poor character, and that he has intent to injure. As a side, Maroon got away with a lot during the series, and the refs should have penalized him when his aggression escalated each game.

I wasn't surprised when I saw Maroon do that, but the refs need to handle guys like this.

  12. If manson stays, i hope he drops the gloves next season. Only reason Maroon got away with it was because Tampa would of had the PP
