Carter Bear is a Detroit Red Wing! The physical forward is selected 13th overall

Despite us wanting them to, Detroit did NOT trade the pick. But they did acquire a player on our short list if they did draft, in Carter Bear. The F from the WHL plays with pace, is physical, and has the skill to finish. Detroit re-signed Antti Tuomisto and William Lagesson. The new CBA has been passed and the changes are great! Noah Dobson was dealt from the New York Islanders to the Montreal Canadiens and social media flipped. #LGRW

  1. Detroit Red Wings prospects/younger NHL players depth chart:

    Bear Kasper Raymond
    Buchelnikov Plante MBN
    Lombardi Danielson Mazur
    Finnie Soderblom Kiiskinen

    Edvidsson Seider
    Wallinder? ASP
    Johansson Johansson
    Buium

    Augustine
    Cossa

To me, Detroit is almost done with their rebuild. They are only lacking a top 4 LD. I expect all of these prospects to make it to the NHL in 4-5 years. These are Detroit's top prospects that have a good track record so far.

  2. Everett, WA is about an hour from where I live. Hope to see Carter Bear play a few games in Everett or against the Seattle Thunderbirds (Chris Osgood’s old team).

  3. Montreal and Ottawa started thier rebuilds 2 years after the Wings did and now they both r 3 years ahead , absolutely Yzerman should b fired now if we dont make at least the playoffs

  4. When the Cat is throwing against other teams thickest we are in trouble. Wings gone woke. Kasper type player on every line. Pay a goalie and defense 10000000s of hockey players that can bang and go to the net. Hockey coaches and gms trying to take the fame needs to disappear. McCarty, maltby, Drapes

  5. I don’t think everyone’s frustrations are rooted in it just being Dobson, it’s a culmination of most how often the team has not been able to get free agents or make trades, especially while teams around Detroit such as Montreal or Ottawa or whoever are making moves to get better and signing guys, whereas Detroit is kinda just… I guess you could say sitting on their hands. I was PISSED earlier on but in hindsight realized that was the case for me

  6. Happy with the pick. He's a good player and I hope we give him minutes in the bigs shortly to develop him quick, even if it comes with some bumpy roads.

  7. The great thing about Bear is that he’s seasoned. Could very well be the first forward in the AHL to start the 26-27 year.

  8. Yzerclown doesn't know how to make a beneficial trade. This pick will make it to Motown in 2050. Yzerman will bury him just as most picks. He'll be adding broken-down players prior to the season.

  9. Like the player but this won't move the needle. Once again Yzerman and Draper sit and watch others make moves to improve. Detroit needs help now not 2 to 3 years from now. The Yzerplan is a failed shit show. Yzerman and Draper should be shown the door. Get past the glory days they brought. It's no excuse to be allowed to screw the future up.

  10. How many want to see the Wings have another bad year and tank so they can have a shot of finally landing the first pick of 2026 McKenna???
This was a good pick for the Wings at #13. As he grows and matures he could be very good player and fan favorite

  11. Carter Bear?
6ft not even 180 pounds and folks are raving he is a physical guy.
It's a huge leap to be physical from junior to the NHL. What's the chance he'll be a real contributor in two seasons?
    Noah Dobson?
People speculating and saying Yzerman can't swing a trade. Anyone consider he didn't want to be on a team of perennial losers with a crybaby captain?🤷‍♂️ Montreal has a real captain

  12. Its depressing knowing the fact that we will still be talking about draft picks when Yzermans draft picks such as mo or raymond retire or go else where. Going into year 7 with a rinse and repeat roster from last year is a admission that owner ship and Yzerman has no care at all about actually being a contending team. Checked out until Yzerman gets fired.

  13. Yzerman has showed he will not make any trades of good value. I fully expect the same trash roster with thr exception of another Hull or petry type signing, giving that caliber of a player a 3 to 5 year deal for 4 to 6 mill…… I just puked in my mouth typing that.

  14. It is a great pick, LW, 5 on 5, plays hard and maybe a NHL player by 2027ish. Still need some free agents terribly though.

  15. Goal scorers fill the seats but guys like Carter Bear win cups. After watching what I could on him, I think Bear has Brad Marchand vibes.

  16. The fact Yzerman took Bear and not Eklund was like being in the matrix. Blew my mind. I'd rather have Bear, but you know he loves those Swedes.

  17. Not being able and or willing to acquire these players is directly on the GM. There seems to be no creativity with him. There are reports but we don't actually know what they wanted or what they would've taken. I believe the fan base has been very patient.

  18. The Wings are no longer in a spot where they can be picky about how they make the team better. Whatever really good player out there should be on the scope of Steve Yzerman.

Dobson thusfar has been the only really good player linked to the Wings through the media. Several notable trade targets have already been snapped. Several popular free agent targets seem to already have a destination in mind (spoiler alert- it's not Detroit).

Dobson isn't a hill to die on. It's yet another instance where this version of the Detroit Red Wings appear to be entirely helpless to attract talent to the organization. Prospects are indifferent to us as a destination. Player agents seem to question the direction of the org.

We aren't in a position to hem and haw about how to fit really good players into our lineup. We aren't in a position to balk at high prices. The price of acquiring really good talent is high.

Pay it. Figure it out. Pay it. I refuse to belive NYI put their foot down and refused to take anything other than two firsts specifically in this year's draft. I have yet to see an actual insider say this. I have only seen speculation based on known offers. If the goal was to move up for Hagens, then I don't understand one bit why next year's first couldn't get it done. If anything, the value is higher than two mid round Montreal firsts.

If we're throwing up our arms and saying there's literally nothing we can do, then it's time for regime change. Let another GM come in and build Detroit's reputation back up so GMs and Players' opinon of Detroit is desirable again.

Because right now, the situation is bleak and unacceptable.

  19. I doubt he'll ever play for the Wings. Yzerman will be gone next year and new management will move in a different direction.

  20. The NBA draft broadcast was bad, the NHL draft broadcast was even worse.
I am draft nerd, I will watch any draft, even sports I don’t follow like women’s soccer, this was maybe the worst draft broadcast I have ever seen.

  21. I think the fact that both Raymond and Edvinsson (who neither post very often) made stories on instagram that Lagesson re-signed, speaks volumes. Obviously very well liked both in GR and the Detroit room, he is ofcourse more valueble on the ice in GR then Detroit but could be trusted on a few games here and there in the NHL á la Lashoff style. Good depth signing
