  1. Wait until you see the deal given out in free agency with the cap going up the next few years. Teams are going to spend ridiculous money tomorrow

  2. What is with these god damn no move clauses do we have to give everyone that do other teams give that as much as isles do I don’t get it?

  3. This is a good deal. He has improved every year he's been an Islander. He is the only defender that opposing players fear. With the cap going up, he'll be a bargain in the 2nd half of this contract.

  4. He also speaks Russian and will be an ambassador for Russian players long after Varlamov is gone. Daniil Prokhorov doesn't speak a word of English and Sorokin is getting better slowly. Romanov and Aitcheson are a couple of defensemen that force you to skate with your head up.

  5. Like the signing, of course the years are an issue but unfortunately with a team like the Isles, seems like we have to do a bit longer than most teams to keep quality in Blue and Orange. It is what it is, but a good signing.

  6. It is the reality of running a sports franchise or any high income business in NY….there is a hefty tax added…economic coercion.😊

  7. Assuming his body doesn't break down from the physicial style he plays, this contract will look good down the road as the cap goes up.

  8. I'm ok with the contract. I just like this guy. For the same money Dobson wanted for next year, the Isles can pay for Romanov and Boqvist and D'Angelo.

  9. Yes! So glad he wasn’t traded. Romanov is becoming the heart of the defense. Those hits and that huge smile! Aitchensen will have a mentor..

  10. I can't see how Romanov will block players down the road. The cap is going to be 113,500,000 in a couple years down the road.
Schaefer, Romanov, Aitcheson, George for years to come. It would be nice to move on from Pelech this year and perhaps Pulock next year or one more year.
I'm hoping Boqvist is given a full opportunity this year and can show his offensive side…maybe he'll be a part of the future too (bottom pairing, PP, OT kind of guy).
I'm okay with the Romanov signing. He plays a game that translates well to playoff hockey.

  11. $14 m to get DeAngelo, Reilly, Perunovich, Holmstrom, Tsyplakov, Gatcomb, Fasching, Heineman signed. Reilly, Perunovich, Gatcomb, Fasching…should all be $1m or less. I'd guess Holmstrom could be about $4m on a bridge contract.

  12. This is a pretty fair deal, especially with the cap going up. We need someone with his skill set, and you make your franchise goalie happy as his buddy will be here long term.

  13. Sure a little less money would be better from a team and fan position, however, this is a young player who hasn’t reached his prime.
This GM is off to the greatest start in history, now with that being said players have to develop have to stay away from injuries, but I have no complaints. The draft was the greatest draft I’ve seen. If it doesn’t work out, it wasn’t the GM’s fault.
