Detroit trade for Husso at the draft before he hit free agency. Wasn't Darcy Kuemper also available the season we got Campbell as well?
If there nothing availab;e or we have to over pay for a side grade. I'd wait til Trade deadline. Maybe sign a Georgiev or another goalie that maybe at least able to challenge the status quo and add depth.
Riddle me this, if Boeser arrives – but gets relegated to 3rd and 4th line with no PP time all season – like Jeff Skinner got relegated to, will he get any better numbers than Jeff Skinner?
Skinner was not given a proper chance to excel for the Oilers. He was shafted on ice time all year (so was Perry, but he at least got on the PP and finally got proper line placement when playoffs started). Jeff got scratched after his first play off game ever, after dealing with this limited icetime every game all year – and finally got a chance in the cup final, where he was among the best looking players on the team.
Knoblocks has to give talented players consistent lineup position to find their mold otherwise they're just going to be wasting both talent AND money like they did on JSkinner.

I think if Carter Hart is available before the start of the season, that’s a free goalie that had elite potential at one time and has shown to be exceptional for stretches at a time. It’s an Oilers thing to do, and in a league with narrow margins, emptying the shelves for a goalie is a fatal blow to a team trying to stay competitive not just now, but for years to come. If Hart has reps, and is free of any charges after the July 24th verdict, Oilers should touch base and get a feel of what’s going on and how they hope to proceed. His ceiling is higher than any of the available goalies.
In the meantime, the firing of Schwartz will have to appease the ravenous fanbase looking for a goalie or two to sacrifice. At least it will start a fresh new narrative, that Skinner can hopefully blossom under a new voice.
I say stay patient to buy time, to become opportunistic and pounce. Perhaps it’s all for not, and Hart isn’t an option for 25/26, but this approach still has merit. Instead, for now I am of the belief (and hope) that the Oiler finally get that elite winger to play with Leon. Save the goalie for after. Imagine if NYI craters at the start of the season and sells off, then and only then, might Sorokin be had, but the assets we would lose would set us back. A free Hart, though perhaps wishful, would save the Oilers in more ways than one.
It’s a terrible story, but maybe there’s a positive ending to the whole thing for Hart and the Oilers.

Paul Coffey was absolutely horrendous. His deployment was terrible. In the finals, his decisions were the exact opposite of what the analytics showed. Like he couldn’t have done a worse job

Corey is a MUST! He helped the playoffs HUGE but Bouch? Way too many mistakes in the season this year. Very lazy and sloppy and if Ekholm was up for renewal I’d pay him far more than Bouch. Are you kidding me? 9.5???

The dark horse for the UFA goalies are Lyon and Forsberg. Either of them are good enough to replace Skinner. They’re not 1A but they’re average/consistent enough for this team to get the cup! That’s what this team needs!
