Why not Mrtka?
I truly thought they were going to trade their 2 second rounders and a next year's 1st to move up again to get Mrtka
Agree that best available was the way to go. I would have liked to have seen a big swing on Roger McQueen more, though
So, now their dev camp has 12 FWs and 14 D.
Yeah I was surprised they didn't take Mrtka since it seemed like such a logical choice for so long (need of D, the local connection), but O'brien is an excellent talent, I especially love those pure playmaking types. He's also the kind of prospect that seems to get a bit underrated because of size concerns- something's that always overblown when you're drafting 18 year olds and might not even be fully filled out physically. I guess the huge emphasis on drafting Defensemen from then on makes a lot of sense if they again went for a center/possible future winger with their first choice.
