Sabres GM Won’t Deny Peterka Trade Reports, Feels Bad for Fans
general manager of the Buffalo Sabres Kevin Adams spoke to the media today in his pre-draft media availability And I think if there was a way for Kevin Adams to do his job without speaking to the media I think that would be the best for the Buffalo Sabres organization and the best for Buffalo Sabres fans because every time Kevin Adams talks he seems to say the worst possible thing that you can say as a general manager If you remember last season when he had his palm trees comment where he said “We don’t have palm trees in Buffalo People might not want to come here because of the city.” Like I can’t imagine a worse thing for a general manager to say And today he didn’t top it but he got close Well he he added to the bag of things you shouldn’t say as a GM today He said that he feels bad for Buffalo Sabres fans Now I feel bad for Buffalo Sabres fans because I think they have been treated so poorly by the organization from the person who owns them and Terry Pagula because of how much he ignores the Buffalo Sabres ever since he bought the Buffalo Bills That is his favorite son and the Buffalo Sabres or the rejects that he does not care about and that’s how he’s gone about treating the organization So I feel bad for Buffalo Sabres as an outside observer The general manager of the team shouldn’t feel bad for Sabres fans He shouldn’t at least say it publicly So what happened is JJ Prurka an RFA on the Buffalo Sabres who’s still 23 years old I had to make sure he’s still very young Yes 23 years old Needs a new contract And all of the rumors you probably know them if you’re watching or listening to this right now JJ Purka is rumored to want out of Buffalo and everybody seems to be in the trade market for JJ Purka except the Buffalo Sabres have not confirmed or deny whether or not they are shopping JJ Purka So at his media availability what did people do They asked Kevin Adams are you going to trade JJ Purka And he gave an answer where he didn’t answer the question He gave a long siloquy about how it’s the draft and they’re looking at all options And there was a follow-up The reporter who followed up said “So you’re saying it’s not a no?” And here’s the answer that Kevin Adams said in response to “So you’re saying it’s not a no that you’re trading JJ Purka.”
Screw all that That’s not enough I I don’t I I don’t want to say yes or no because I just don’t think it’s it’s the right time you know and I can probably after the draft get you know and and when we have other conversations get into more specifics on things but I just don’t think it’s fair to the player to be honest with you to really even respond to that I think it’s just better to to keep it to the the fact that we have a plan We’re working towards helping our our team get better We’re willing to do whatever it takes to get better And I don’t know like I get a I get memos on my desk every morning from PR of things And I feel to be if I’m being honest like I feel bad for our fans The stuff that’s out there there’s so much misinformation So much of it’s nonsense I mean some someone that has no idea what they’re talking about reporting that we were going to buy Sammy out We’ve never had that conversation once Like it’s ridiculous So I don’t even think it’s worth me really getting into it But um I guess I’d just leave it at that
My advice to Kevin Adams there would be to reassure fans If you feel bad for them how about in this moment you dispel the biggest rumor that’s out there it’s very nice of him to say that they’re not going to buy out Samuelson Like that’s Oh good Like good Now do it with JJ Perurka And the fact that he didn’t do it with JJ Proka means they are seriously looking at trading him which is the wrong thing So if Kevin Adams you feel bad for these fans and you don’t want all these rumors out there why not dispel the JJ Perurka rumor like you did the Samson rumor in that same sentence there in your same answer You dispelled that one but you wouldn’t dispel the JJ Purka rumor which I think we can all agree means that it’s true And there’s some truth to the fact that the Buffalo Sabres are looking at moving on from this very talented 23-year-old who has not reached his ceiling And instead of keeping this young player when the Buffalo Sabres need good talented young players they are looking at moving him in a way to get better But the Buffalo Sabres can’t get better very quickly because the offers out there aren’t going to help Kevin Adams keep his job and make this team better this upcoming season Kevin Adams is sitting on his hands He either needs to keep this player and commit to the player and the core that he has or flip the player for assets that make you good now And I assume he’s he’s weighing all options right now but dragging this thing out isn’t helping the Sabres I don’t know if it feels like this to you but like the longer this thing drags on the further and further we go into the off season it feels like to me it’s more and more likely every single day that Purka gets traded This thing feels like he’s just keeps continually looking at trade offers And if we can take the history of how Kevin Adams has general managed this Buffalo Sabres team when he makes this deal he’s not going to win it So my best advice to him would be to not make the deal and to sign the player because he’s going to make this deal and he’s going to lose this deal and the Buffalo Sabres are going to be worse for it Kevin Adams is in over his head as general manager of this team He should have never been promoted to this position by the owner who’s really good friends with him who groomed him to be this guy but he has no experience running a hockey team He got in there fired everybody had no help around him to teach him how to run a hockey team He’s been a failure for five seasons and this thing is only continuing and getting worse as the months and years and seasons roll on with Kevin Adams as GM of the Buffalo Sabres Let me know how you’re feeling Buffalo Sabres fans if you’re listening and watching to this on the Jesse Blake Sports Report YouTube channel If you’re not a Buffalo Sabres fan do you feel bad for Buffalo Sabres fans Because I certainly do just like Kevin Adams apparently And if while you’re there on the Jesse Blake Sports Support YouTube channel hit like on this and hit subscribe on the channel This is also available on all audio platforms I have been sweating throughout this whole video I don’t know if you can see it if you’re watching but there is sweat coming from my face if you are watching because uh the AC isn’t working too well at the STBN Studios right now and it is boiling in Toronto It reached 33° C and this studio right now is just so hot and humid So I’m going to wrap this up and uh get out of here cuz I’m going to melt that Thank you for being here You could have been anywhere in the world listening or watching right now And I appreciate you for that Good night from Toronto

Kevin next time you have a thought, just let it go. How this moron still has a job isn't even ridiculous anymore, it's a travesty. Just wait until we keep losing and then Jarmo takes a GM job for another team. Pegula has ruined this organization, he refuses to let anyone tell him how to run this team. Could not agree more, but to be fair to Kevyn Adams, he fired all of his staff at the behest of Pegula who wanted to cut payroll because they were having cash flow issues after buying the Bills. Obviously now he is flushed with cash, but he's just been a bad owner.

The management of the Sabres is such a dumpster fire. Peterka is getting traded, and will clearly succeed wherever he goes because he's great player. I don't know how the Sabres fans put up with it all. They do still have some of the cleanest retro jerseys though 😎

Going on 6 years with Adams and can’t find the middle 16 years with Terry and it’s been the bottom but it’s all misinformation. How does this guy still have a job?

You make it sound like Buffalo doesn’t want to pay Peterka that’s why he could be traded, that’s false, JJ wants out, this GM traded up in draft to select him, it’s the best draft pick he’s made, he does not want to trade him. This owner gave Dahlin 88 mill, Cozens and Tage 50 million, Skinner 72 million, Power 64 million, there has never been a player who the Sabres owner didn’t want to pay. This owner allowed Adams to trade for Josh Norris who makes 8 million for the next 5 seasons. Money is not the problem in Buffalo.

I feel bad for Sabres fans. Half the teams in the NHL make the playoffs every year… EVERY YEAR. Yet the Sables never get to the post season.. at least not in a long while.
I can assure Kevyn Adams .. if the Sabres keep rebuilding, they will keep being a donor team to the rest of the NHL. BUILD A TEAM .. NOT A FARM SYSTEM.

I know that Adams is terrible, but to be fair to him, I feel like this quote is slightly out of context. He said that he feels bad for the fans re: rumours and misinformation.
He definitely should have denied the Peterka stuff at the same time he denied the Samuelsson stuff, though.

Here after the Peterka trade. Smithers has done it again. Sabres lose a good forward prospect and get nothing worth a shit in return. This man is the most Undefeated GM in the NHL, but undefeated at making awful decisions.
And a day later, the rumour was proven to be true after he was traded to Utah. 😂😂😂
The Peterka trade just made things look so dicey for the leafs. he landed 7.7m x 5 and Knies scored more points. that probably is gonna push his cap hit up way more than what the leafs would like even if they offer longer term.

Someone on Sabres reddit said something like "Adams hasn't done anything as a GM but speaks with unearned cockiness." And it's so spot on to Adams' character and sums up why people just hate seeing and listening to him. It's his entire demeanor during press conferences and interviews, and shows how out of touch with reality our management is.
This last trade with Penguins another one trade which makes no sense
