Boston Bruins Sign Michael Callahan

Boston Bruins Sign Michael Callahan

welcome back to BNG Hockey where it’s always black and gold in my last video I talked about the Bruins signing RFA forward Merritt Hustadinov but he wasn’t the only Bruins RFA getting a contract done today as the team also signs defenseman Michael Callahan to a one-year two-way deal with an NHL cap hit of 775K callahan is a 25-year-old 6’2 left shot defenseman originally selected in the fifth round of the 2018 draft 142 overall to the now non-existent Arizona Coyotes in 17 games with the Bruins this season he had one goal zero assists for a total of one point and was a minus five as an assistant captain with the Providence Bruins in 45 games he had one goal eight assists for a total of nine points and is a plus three and he was also an AHL Allstar this season he’s played in a total of 185 AHL games all with the Providence Bruins where he has seven goals 29 assists for a total of 36 points not a whole lot to love about this guy’s game in fact if he didn’t go to Providence College and if he wasn’t from Franklin Mass the Bruins probably never get him in the first place but that being said he’s had a solid AHL career in the Bruins system he’s a simple guy with a simple game he’s a shutdown defenseman projects to be an extra bottom pair seventh defenseman type guy at the NHL level and hey with a cap hit of 775K if this guy’s playing NHL games you can’t really be mad about that he is only 25 years old so you could argue that he’s still got a little ways to go to grow his game and with a guy like Parker Wtherspoon likely leaving as a UFA you do need some extra depth there on the left side the Bruins really need help on the right side especially if they don’t bring Yoki Haru back i hope they do i thought he was an awesome fit and we gave up an asset at the deadline so hopefully we add him back to the right side but there’s definitely a hole in that extra defenseman spot and now that Callahan has 17 NHL games under his belt you could argue he’d be ready to fill that role full-time going into next season and at a solid low cap hit for only one year I can’t be that mad about it and it’s nice to see the Bruins focus on getting their RFAS done so they have a real idea of the money they can spend when it comes to the real players in free agency so let me know your thoughts what do you think of Callahan as a player and what do you think of this contract leave that down below in the comments if you enjoyed this video make sure to give it a big like and if you haven’t already subscribe

The Boston Bruins sign RFA Michael Callahan to a contract extension. In this video I look at Callahan’s career in the AHL with the Providence Bruins as well as his NHL career with the Bruins. I also give my thoughts on the player, this contract, and what he can bring to the team moving forward. Lastly I talk about how Parker Wotherspoon and Henri Jokiharju might be leaving as UFA’s and how that impacts Callahan and the Bruins.
