Felix Bautista Mechanics

Felix Bautista is an absolute tank who throws 103 mph with elite carry.⁠
⁠
Here are a few things worth mentioning about his mechanics:⁠
⁠
✅️ He brings his eyes down as he gathers, THEN picks up the target⠀⁠
✅️ He has a longer arm swing, which matches his glove side⠀⁠
✅️ He holds a trunk stack, allowing energy from the pelvis to funnel up into the trunk at foot strike⠀⁠
✅️ His arm unwinds in plane (maximizing velocity)⠀⁠
✅️ He has a much higher slot in-game, where his intensity puts him into more extreme thoracic extension, driving the slot and tilt on his FB up. This is the main reason he’s able to generate such elite carry on his fastball.⠀⁠

Overall, he has VERY solid patterns, but Bautista isn’t achieving any true outlier positions in his mechanics. His outlier quality (and how he throws 103) is being an absolute house, which helps him produce and capture much higher levels of momentum up the chain.🏠⠀⁠

For what it’s worth, I’m not a huge fan of flat ground work for a guy like this – he leverages the slope extremely well but loses some of that rotation compared to the mound.⁠
