In one of the most important clashes of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, Los Angeles Knight Riders and Seattle Orcas take on each other in the 20th game of the season at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, on Sunday (June 29).
Both have had a tough season, or rather, a tough couple of seasons. Both have played six matches in this edition, but have managed only one win, losing five games and having only two points. Seattle have the better net run rate among the two and are in the penultimate position on the points table of this six-team tournament. This game is important for both franchises, despite being a bottom-of-the-table clash, because MI New York, currently fourth on the table, also have two points from six matches, and the winner of this match has a slight advantage moving forward.
And guess what? This strategic mid-season leadership change has made wonders for the 2023 runners-up. Seattle broke their 10-match losing streak across 2024 and 2025 with an unbelievable win over the New York-based franchise by three wickets. Bowling first, Kyle Mayers and Gerald Coetzee provided early breakthroughs and were good throughout the innings, but the rest of the attack was taken to the cleaners by Nicholas Pooran and Tajinder Singh Dhillon, who helped the defending champions to a monster 237/4 in 20 overs.
Things were looking downhill for the Orcas when they lost wickets at regular intervals. However, their innings had a certain flow, with the likes of Mayers, Raza and Klaasen coming in and playing cameos. Still, the Orcas needed a miracle to pull off the highest ever successful run chase in MLC. Shimron Hetmyer turned things on for Seattle and played one hell of an innings, smashing an unbeaten 97 off 40 balls to single-handedly pull off an unreal victory on the final ball.
