RAW | Trent Frederic 06.27.25
hey Tre congratulations on the uh contract Uh you know a lot of security I think with this deal when you look at the length of it Um can you kind of take us through how you arrived at the eight years and what’s that is is going to mean for you uh your family and your career
Yeah Uh thanks Reed Uh yeah Um it’s just like um through talking through my agent and negotiating that’s kind of something I wanted to be in in one spot And um I just think uh this group here uh gives me the best chance at uh winning the ultimate prize And um ultimately hopefully just get eight uh you know eight chances at it And um that’s basically kind of uh my thought process and kind of how it all went through When you look at your role on this team and and I know when you did your year-end availability you were reluctant to speak about your injury and I appreciate that but is there a a role that you think you can fill of scoring and toughness that maybe you weren’t able to fully execute in the postseason because of what you were going through Yeah I mean uh not really gonna use the injury as like any excuse to um obviously I didn’t think I had the best playoffs but um you know um I think I can bring more and I think the Warriors uh believe that too And uh I know I will and um I have more scoring ability Obviously uh the other factors of the game it’s sometimes a little hard in playoffs uh especially being a new guy to sometimes play on the edge especially with you know uh every penalty matters and uh just being careful there So um you know I’m excited Uh I’m really excited for the next season to start here and uh show everyone what I’m about Thank you Reed Let’s go to Derek Vanist of NHL.com Hey Trent congratulations on the contract I just wanted to ask you about I know it was kind of tough to integrate yourself into the team because you were injured You didn’t get a chance to play a lot in the regular season I just What was it about this group that you really liked and you felt that you wanted to be part of it moving forward Um yeah I’ll just start um immediately when I got there Uh just the training staff the equipment staff uh workout guys the chefs um and the whole team It’s like one uh one big community everyone’s a part of it and just all great people and it’s uh people I enjoyed uh being injured you get to sit back and kind of look and um see how great of people are in this organization and that’s what seems like this organization’s all about and um at the end of the day like you spend a lot of time um at the rink and uh being with those people and uh I I very I enjoyed everyone uh so much and realized this is a great organization and uh just the team itself I think Um you know uh it’s going to give me the best chance like I said to uh be on a winning team and and have a chance of winning it
And I know um last year you had a pretty good season in Boston with 40 points I was just wondering if if if the best is still to come in your opinion like are you are you can you be a 20 goal guy Do you think that’s kind of in your wheelhouse Uh yeah I believe I I will be and I know I can be Uh I think my best hockey is yet to come I’m I’m 27 years old Uh I think I you know I had a step back this year but uh I think every year I’ve improved and I’ll continue to do that and I think um you know like I said I’m excited for the season to start and uh show everyone what I’m about
Thanks Trent
Yeah thank you Derek
Thank you Derek Let’s go to Rob Titkowski of Post Media Hi Trent Uh I remember speaking earlier with you uh when the playoffs started and you kind of said that this was the most fun you’ve ever had playing hockey wonder if you could maybe at this point now kind of expand on what that experience was like for you Yeah I mean um I think I think I said it um I’ve said it before but uh you know playing Edmonton playing at Rogers Place uh as a hockey player and my uh number one uh thing in life is as right now is playing hockey and that’s what I love to do and fortunate enough that I I get to do it for a living to play in front of all the fans at Edmonton and to play at Rogers Place and uh to see the buzz around the city It’s I already said it but it’s a hockey heaven It’s everything you can dream up as a hockey player And uh obviously I believe that we’re going to have a great team and uh that I’m going to get more experiences and uh get a chance to win it all And uh I don’t know just playing there it’s incredible when you walk out and uh the doors open Uh it’s it’s a very cool feeling How long did it take before you realized yeah this this is the place where I want to put down some roots Was it you know a few weeks right off the bat maybe after a couple of playoff rounds
Um yeah like right away you know being injured like as weird as it sounds uh it was a different um normally if you were to get traded I don’t really know but you would just hop in get integrated with all the guys but I was actually uh integrated to the whole staff almost first Uh and I was I was uh very amazed by that And uh usually you can see when you have a good staff like um the way they treat people and the way they treat each other and um you just knew there’s something special here And then the more I got to hang out with the guys I I knew that uh you know this um you know Stan and Jax and everyone they care about character and good people in there and that’s what I want to be a part of
Thank you Thank you Rob Let’s go to Steven Wino of the Associated Press Tren maybe in a year from now players aren’t going to be able to sign eight year contracts It seems like it’s going to be maximum seven Just how thankful are you that you’re able to lock in for for this for eight years on this deal
Um yeah I mean I I don’t know if I fully knew that Uh I’ve heard that that’s a rumor but um yeah I guess that could be a rarity now Um I guess uh eight years is is better than seven Uh but yeah it’s it’s good to lock in I guess before that that changes Thank you Okay we just have one uh question remaining or one hand up remaining from Jim Conland Go ahead Jim
Hi uh Trent Uh Trent with your future assured so early in the off season how how looking forward you are to getting a real good preseason under your belt and really attacking the new season straight from the off Uh yeah I mean uh I’m I’m excited for the year to start Uh obviously taking a little bit of time off right now Um I haven’t haven’t skated since season Um but uh yeah I’m very excited just to get up there and uh to get fully integrated uh to do camp to do all that stuff and uh really uh you know I guess dial it all in before the year starts
And finally do you think a full camp under your belt will integrate you fully going into the new season Obviously uh that integration was sort of hampered uh towards the end of the season there Yeah I I think uh you know when you look at camp it’s it builds a base U you know there’s a lot of video that builds a base of what the team’s going to be about Uh obviously um you can’t win all in camp but it’s a it’s a big uh it’s a big part to starting the year off right Uh having a big start um is is is key to uh you know making the playoffs
Trent speaks to the media virtually after his eight-year contract extension with the Oilers was announced on Friday.

GLAD TO HEAR YOU'RE STAYING IN OIL COUNTRY 🧡💙🤍
No more hotel room for Freddy
Lets go Freddy. Glad to have you in Edmonton for 8 years.💙🧡🙂
I hope it pans out because I didn’t see anything that would result in a 8 year deal. Anyways congratulations Fredrick.
These questions are painful. I really feel for these players
Welcome permanently to Oil Country Trent 💙🧡💙🧡
8 years feels like a lot, gonna need to have a breakout year
Reid Wilkins is trash
Im glad hes staying any contender would love to have this kid toughnes
3.85 for that term is good, by year 2-3 it will be good value and he’ll be outplaying it. The guy already put up 40 on a Boston team not known for offense, he’ll outplay his contract.
He needs to show a lot of people he’s worth it
Plz make the Finals so Panthers can win again 😂
Why a NMC. That’s a terrible contract. Stop handing those out like skittles
Crazy contract……not worth it. Go Cats go…..
I hope he brings his game going forward, so we can see what this guy is even about. Didn’t see much that stood out in the playoffs . Cripes what a payday.
BOO THIS ORGANIZATION!
Good signing.
Love You Freddy ❤
These questions are useless
I don't get this move. You normally give deals this long to star players not middle wingers. Pierre Engval anyone. What about all those deals Det signed after they won a cup and had success. All those long term deals were anchors and it happened very fast. The Ericssons and Abelkaders etc.
He’s a championship piece, plain and simple
Overpaid by 2.85 mil.
Trent doesn’t need to show anyone anything, he going to be a great fit for the oil!
Very disappointed Oilers signed him.
Welcome to Oil Country Trent! 💙🧡💙
That's the face of a man who just won the lottery
Who does Freddy have pictures of?
Welcome to the OIL, FREDDY!
I have 1 question why isn’t Trent wearing an oilers hat??
Oilers r cooked sign this bum butt pass on McLeod hollaway lol
Didn't have a dime for Holloway, Broberg or Foegele. Let Kane walk when he's healthy an in a contract year (Guys like him have a way of showing up huge for that 1 contract year). But they have 4 for 8 years for Frederic. Kane is a much better player. I'm not saying this isn't isn't a good signing. I'm saying WTF is going on that they let all those guys walk, and now have 8 yrs for a 27 years old. Get ready for Lucic 2.0 , 4 years from now.
Huge risk for the Oilers with this signing.
Congrats Teddy 🐻Bear 💪Tough Freddy Frederic!!! Can't Wait For Your 🏒🍁🥅Role!
