On Thursday night, the Edmonton Oilers highest paid defenseman was involved in heavy trade speculation regarding being subject to a trade. Darnell Nurse had his name being thrown all around the internet with rumors saying he could be traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

I would trade Darnell Nurse for a bag of peanuts.
It's debatable whether Nurse is better in his own end than Karlsson. Karlsson is a lot better defensively than he's ever gotten credit for. Pittsburg is not at all a fair assessment of his defensive capability; that team was a travesty for most of the season, and he had no support. He's extremely intelligent in the way he reads the play, he's great at stealing the puck, and a maestro at playing out of trouble. And when he's healthy, he's able to nullify counter-attacks with his speed. Nurse is not at all agile or quick, and he gets picked apart with quick little passes around the net, whereas Karlsson is very agile and quick, and he has a great stick for picking off those passes that killed the Oilers throughout the playoffs, especially penalty killing. Despite his age, Karlsson would be a massive upgrade to Nurse.

Every player played badly in the Final Series! They threw one game away entirely by fighting…it only made the slaughter worse. We rolled over the first 3 rounds like a juggernaut, amazingly… but then went flat. It isn't Nurse or anyone specifically, it was a flop synergy. Top to bottom, they froze up… more like feeeze dried.

No one in the NHL would take Nurse on at 9 mill. He is not top 4 on a Stanley Cup champion, despite what Edmonton media and Oilers Nation want you to believe. Walman is better player at a fraction of cost.
Nurse and Skinner, once again on the back end this season, it will be the same scenario. So close, but yet, so far away.

Matthias Ekholm is $6mil. Trista is $5mil. Trade Pickard, burry Tristan in the AHL (saves $1.2mil from the cap, right?). Net savings $5mil ($4mil cap savings + $1.2 milburied savings). Get an Ekholm level Dman for $5+mil.
The NMC makes this impossible, end of story, people need to understand that. The buyout makes no sense either, let it go, he is still an NHL caliber player and the % of the cap on his deal is going to decrease as time goes on.
