The stanley cup wasnt the best way to analysis the defrnse. Th e Oilers played so much from behind it was hard to see them shut down a team or lock a game down like florida did.
All's the team needs is a goalie better than what currently have and another sniper in the 3rd line. Like Panthers with Marchand. Marchand line in Florida is a first line in most teams. We don't have the scoring depth that Panthers have. Boeser would be perfect. An NHL winning cup team needs at least 5-6 guys with over 20 goals in regular season

I see no way of beating panthers. They play a tough dominant style. We’d have to trade half the team or more to get comparable players. The panthers are very disciplined and play as a team. Oilers have no fight in them. Didn’t fight to protect their goalie?!
On one hand you would like a guy who is hard player with some skill added to your team because they understand they have a great chance of winning a cup. Then there a good thing about aquiring a pkayer who knows when most to turn it on because they won a cup.

So this team has traded 3 consecutive 1st round picks & they have a 35 year old veteran defender in left hand shot Ekholm, then a 29 year old lhd defender Walman and Sam Reilly? Tell me what do you notice about this team management? I know that a businessman like Daryl Katz wouldn't have bought Rexall Drugs at the highest price point & then sell low, yet that's exactly what he has allowed his GM's to do. How is this team ever going to balance their roster with quality personnel in each position? They should change their names now that Oil & gas is being phased out.
