CHARLIE COYLE IS PUMPED TO BE COLUMBUS BUE JACKET! 💥 💥 💥

joining me right now is Charlie Coyle one of the newest members of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Charlie uh were you surprised that you were dealt by the Colorado Avalanche today or was it something that you knew might happen um you’re always kind of surprised I guess in a way but um my situation I have one year left you know they start to sign some some guys and you hear things kind of around the league and people talking so there’s always a chance and I knew there was always a chance that anything could happen so I just you know just go with the flow and go about my everyday business and if it happens I’ll get a call and we’ll go from there um if not you know then then I just keep living my life you know but um it happened got the call and told me it was Columbus and I I uh pretty excited um I love what they’re doing there and so I’m pretty pretty pumped to to be a part of it and uh their team’s been trending up for for years now and I hear nothing but good things about uh the area living there playing there so I’m I’m pretty pretty excited myself
yeah i mean you’re a Boston guy you’re a Northeastern guy so I know you started your career in Minnesota before you went to the Bruins and then out to Colorado are you glad to get back a little bit closer to the Northeast yeah my my family’s pretty pumped about it just for the the the late night games or or getting a bit much over in Colorado um no but that that’s the little things you know you think of and when things happen and this is pretty fresh in the last hour or two so um I got to chat with my my family quick and just kind of going over uh the positives and things to look forward to so um being back home is or I guess in the east part is is is definitely a plus um my wife’s from Minnesota and Ohio is uh pretty much right in between we’ve done the drive from Boston to Minnesota and we stop in Ohio every time stay overnight so that’s kind of the extent of my Ohio knowledge and uh you know what’s out there besides playing there um but I’ve stayed in a couple hotels um on my way to and from um but hoping to learn a little more as as we go along you won’t have a choice you You’ll learn a lot the people here will take to you quite quickly I’ll tell you that hey you talked about the Blue Jackets being a team that’s been trending up and last year was a a really big trend uh you know just missing the playoffs by two points and look we’re here every day and you know lived it with that team but on the outside um you know I I know you’re paying attention to your own team but you know did you pay any attention to to what was going on here and uh and I don’t know if you could feel the excitement around but this is a team a lot of people were talking about
yeah for for for sure it’s you always kind of know a little bit what’s going on around the league you want to focus on your your uh your own thing and your your team your task um first and foremost but you uh you you could not hear about Columbus and in what they’re doing and how the teams come together even more and um playing against them this year like some some tough tough games and you know it used to never be like that you know and and I think they’ve kind of been up and down and and then the last little bit especially last year it’s you can tell things are changing and um it’s a hard building to come into play that cannon it’s It’ll be good to be on the right side of that that’s pretty much the only thing my uh my buddies and family and everyone’s talking about is the cannon the cannon um so I’m a big Cannon guy now and uh but I’m I’m excited to join the team that it it’s you can just tell there’s there’s there’s a lot of good coming and a lot of good that’s already you know come from from these teams the last couple years especially last year and I just want to do my part to come in and and fit in with the team and bring what I can bring to help out and help them win a little more and it’s it’s always a team effort but um this is a team that’s again come together even more and have has used that and and become closer um to achieve you know making playoffs and and beyond and and that’s the goal are there any guys or any guy or guys in particular that you’re looking forward to being a teammate with here you know what I This has all happened so quick and I’m trying to think of of guys they have guys who maybe contracts are up this year who may be back might not be back i don’t even know the whole you know because this is so fresh um but a lot of guys who are just you know Zacharinsky one of them who’s who’s just seems like he takes a big leap every year um I always envy the way he can just play with what looks like is very effortless from the outside and the way he skates handles the puck and does everything out there um but there’s there’s other guys too who have taken big strides and you know guys your first couple years in the league who you you know never knew before and all of a sudden you’re playing against them and like these guys can play and and I think there’s a there’s a pretty good young group in there of guys who are who are hungry and only going to get better with experience from these previous years and and as we go um Sean Monahan one of them who’s been around the league um for a bit now and is a great two-way centerman um and then Boon Jenner a guy who’s always hard to play against and has done a what looks like a pretty good job of leading that team and and being who he is and bringing guys along with him um those are the teams and the guys you want to you know play with and be a part of and so that’s what excite excites me as well and and I’m pretty happy to be able to play with those guys going forward
i got to tell you Charlie I’ve enjoyed watching you play against the Blue Jackets for the past what 12 years or whatever it’s been uh you frustrated me at times so I’m really looking forward to calling your goals now uh on this side of it where I’m excited about it
i I am too i am too i don’t I think you’re being too nice uh I don’t think I’ve done too much damage and um but looking to do some more as a as a Blue Jacket and um I’m just excited to get in there and I always love playing in that rink and being in there and kind of hearing the cannon but we’ll love hearing the cannon now um but I appreciate those words it’s very nice all right looking forward to it thank you very much and uh look forward to meeting you in person soon
