Gibson or Talbot for the starter?
Perfect pickup for Detroit. Gibson is used to dragging 19 limp bodies across the ice and missing the playoffs by now.

This is a perfect onramp for Cossa. Talbot has one year left. I'd expect to see a handful of home starts for Cossa. If they go well, Talbot could be a trade deadline mover, then Cossa backs up Gibson in 26-27. It's a perfect way to ease Cossa in. Love the move.
Reports from Detroit insiders say the Ducks wanted a 1st and Anton Johansson at the trade deadline. So glad Steve waited this one out.

Feel good for Gibson. I always thought he deserved better then what Anaheim was providing. Had a solid season and hope it works well for him in Detroit.

My guess is that the pressure is on Yzerman to make the playoffs next year, so this is an attempt to shore up a weak spot.

A career .910 save percentage is pretty solid. He played much better in the 2024-2025 season than he did the two previous seasons, so he's showing he can still play. I like this trade.
