The New York Islanders are building a formidable blue line for the future! After making a statement by drafting Matthew Schaefer 1st overall, they’ve doubled down on defense, selecting rugged blueliner Kashawn Aitcheson with the 17th pick!
Aitcheson, a 6’1″, 199-pound left-shot defenseman from the Barrie Colts, brings an incredibly rare blend of elite physicality and offensive production. He scored 26 goals and 59 points in 64 OHL games to lead Barrie, while also playing a fearless, hard-hitting game. Aitcheson plays with a serious swagger, defending teammates and flattening opponents with booming checks.

Islanders killed it ! Darche is already better than every other GM in Islanders history except Torry! Heineman, Schaefer, Eklund, Aitcheson! Omg 😱 Home Run 2 pesky Swedish wingers 2 Stud D Men! And more to go tomorrow!!!! Amazing what trading Dobson and winning the lottery ! Wow!!!!
So far, Darche is killing it in the draft. This kid Kashawn Aitcheson, a 6'1 "and 199 lbs, he can put the puck in the net, and dish our some monster hits.
This year is going to be about trading vets and clearing cap space. They are going to do it right, through the draft. They realize this group time has passed. 2026 2027
Keep moving out vet contracts and get prospects and picks. Darch looks like he has a plan.
I think this pick is a steal. This is a physical kid who will put on 15 pounds of muscle in a year or two. He’s still a youngster, however, he already has demonstrated a strong body with a willingness to be physical & cantankerous
The issue is his weak skating which makes him a huge question mark
