The Detroit Red Wings have added a high-motor, skilled forward to their ranks at the 2025 NHL Draft, selecting Carter Bear with the 13th overall pick! This is a fantastic fit for Steve Yzerman’s vision of a competitive, hard-working team.
Bear, a versatile 6’0″ forward from the Everett Silvertips (WHL), is known for his relentless compete level, elite net-front presence, and a knack for scoring big goals (40 goals, 82 points in 56 games!). He’s a tenacious two-way player with excellent hockey IQ and the ability to play both center and wing. Despite a season-ending Achilles injury, his potential as a top-six forward who embodies grit and skill.

  1. Was hoping to trade the pick for a player to help now, but Bear is a great pick. We’ll see what day 2 and free agency hold for us.

  2. I was very disappointed in the lack of Eklund or Smith being picked. I see Bear as more of a third line guy when the Wings need some high skill players on offense or a top level left D.

    How about the Islanders though? A+ drafting right there.

  3. Think Bear is a good pick. Seemed to dodge a bullet with the Achilles. Think he would have been in the top 8 discussion without that injury. Could be value there.

  5. At the end of the day.. just another prospect that does nothing now and in the future to make this team any better. Oh yay another failed season up coming of just straight up garbage.
