i do know this Once they went in the direction they went in and sold at the trade deadline Don Sweeney hit that amateur circuit hard He was everywhere looking for talent So we’ll see Again I don’t think they can whiff here Go with a sure thing Let’s see who it is
All right Will it be Hagens to the Bruins at seven [Music] [Applause] Making the selection for the Boston Bruins we have a special guest an award-winning comedian actor golfer and lifelong Bruins fan My name is Glad to be part of the 2025 NHL draft The Boston Bruins select from Boston College James Hagen James Hagens elite playmaker makes his line mates better Boston College He’ll likely go back there for year two this year He’s falls for the Bruins at seven Megan
it’s poetic I mean Heagen doesn’t have to go far to go from college to an NHL team and that playmaking elite vision is just too good to pass up at this point I think for Boston even if you want to go with someone with a bit more bite He is that pass first player So had a bit of an underwhelming year which is maybe why he’s fallen to the Boston Bruins But I think you’re delighted if you’re them because he’s fourth forwards passes completed to the slot at just over 15 per game and his favorite movie is in fact Happy Gilmore He’s got
that back How about you have that You know I would say he was compared to me as like a Clayton Keller Logan Pulley type At the same age though he has more perimeter in his game But Hagens himself confident kid He feels like he didn’t get enough credit for the season he had both at Boston College and for Team USA at World Juniors And again with Boston I kept saying they couldn’t whiff on it This is their highest first round selection since 2011 They need a center They need a prospect pool Boston is going to absolutely love this kid Absolutely And head coach Greg Brown who’s a part of Dave Quinn’s Ranger staff has done a nice job at BC He knows what it takes to develop talent He knows what it takes to help these young players really just cultivate their skill set as players on and off the ice And in the case of Hagens my biggest thing for him when I watch him play is his head is always up
I’ve never seen a player whose head is up upright He’s not even looking down at the puck Yeah
his puck handling ability is second nature and he scans the rink as well as anybody I’ve ever seen
The other point about Hagens getting picked in this spot is my NHL comparable with Logan Culie So if you’re Utah maybe you’re like a little too much of the same and that was a reason to pass instead of him being a player you don’t want
Yeah Right Logan of course he wears his heart and his sleeve Hagen’s a little more cooler customer Covered him obviously a Boston College big mitty He’s not a big fell He’s just a little bigger bigger than the commissioner but he’s got big strong hands and he’s heading to the NHL draft house as the Bruins get their guy at seven Cam Neely and Don Sweeney [Music] [Music]
