THE ISLANDERS ARE NOT DONE YET: HUGE MATHEW BARZAL TRADE RUMOURS TO VANCOUVER CANUCKS & UTAH MAMMOTH

[Music] hey don’t worry we can make the regular old gameplay commentary still for a topic like this it’s not immediate breaking NHL news that we can dive into and analyze but it is some very interesting speculation take a look at this it seems like the New York Islanders might not be done because David Pñota moments after the Noah Dobson trade to Montreal tweeted this out the Isisles remain active in addition to all their action dobson for 1617 in Heinaman 16 and 17 trading up in the draft i’m told some teams have called the Islanders about Matthew Bars all including Utah and Vancouver i don’t get the sense that anything is close right now but some clubs have inquired now let’s get into semantics here folks because Vancouver and Utah inquiring about a player does not necessarily mean that that player is in play it’s just “Hey Patrick Alvine hit up Matthew Dar yo fam are you trading Dobson?” Okay great what about Barzol that’s as far as it could have gone utah could have done the exact same thing hey Dar are you trading Barzol this is the thing about these trade ideas and these rumors here teams are going to go out there and take a look at the situation in New York and wonder what else is available it’s like a big yard sale going on over here folks one of the league’s best young defensemen just gets moved and now everybody is wondering who else is on the chopping block what else could help out this Islanders team for their goals could we interest you in the 15th overall draft pick if you’re Vancouver could we grab a Matthew Barzal to replace Brock Besser on the right wing i will say having Evander Kane Barzal and Person on a line would be an entirely new look and something that I would be so intrigued by with the speed of both of those two wingers or you can spread the speed throughout the lineup have Barzal play with whomever it is on the second line or have Barzal just as the second line center that’s also a possibility but the Vancouver Canucks interest in Matthew Barzal is apparent the guy is from here he’s a Kquitlam kid and I find it not surprising at all that Barzal is on the radar of the Vancouver Conucks according to David Pota Barzal is also in that ripe age range he’s 28 years old also a 2015 drafty the connects are really locking it down with these 2014 2015 year guys between Connor Garland Thatcher Demco Matthew Barzal if they’re able to get him because you know they ended up losing out on a 2015 drafty and Brock Besser so ultimately that would be a replacement for the ages barzol in this most recent season had only 20 points but he only had 30 games played the Islanders as we noted in all the previous commentaries about Noah Dobson they haven’t really been all too hot the past 12 months barzal had 80 points in 80 games the recent year before that sure it doesn’t trump his rookie season’s worth of point production where he had 85 points in 82 games and stole the Calder from Brock Besser but that year was a little bit different because Barzal wasn’t the top guy there was still John Tiveres in New York and Barzal was unfortunately doomed to fail point production-wise because he didn’t have that Tiver to feed off of like he had in his rookie year barzel also got so many secondary assists in year 1 okay I got to stop talking about it like that because I feel like that’s just my 2017 18 me coming back out and showing frustration with the fact that Brock Besser lost that Calder but Barzal is a fantastic player he rose around the ice he’s a very good puck possession caliber guy he can just go and go and go he’s got wheels for days he beat Conor McDavid at the NHL Allstar fastest skater competition barzol is just that guy and he happens to be from Kquitlam so there is a really good Vancouver connection here this is a player whom if he were to come over to Vancouver and if the Canucks were able to really feed into all the other rumors that everybody’s talking about like let’s say the Canucks get Marco Rossi let’s say they get Matthew Barzal let’s say they get Bowen Byum for cheap patrick Alvine really does have an opportunity to pull things together and to cook a lot more than we would have expected everybody’s freaking out about Connor Garland everybody’s freaking out about Brock Besser leaving everybody’s freaking out about Archar Sheilobs getting traded there are so many things that you can comfortably raise concerns about with the Vancouver Conucks but if they just put together a team that is better than the team they had last year then I mean it’s a lot easier to buy in right and it’s a lot easier for Quinn Hughes to potentially buy in i say last year not as in like 23 24 i think that’s a really difficult task but last year as in this most previously completed season a lot easier to do that right just have no JT Miller drama and you’re already better meanwhile let’s talk about the Utah Hockey Club i am scared man i’m just terrified this idea that the Utah hockey club is not done yet after getting JJ Purka still with this young core of guys Keller Culie Schmaltz Gensther i mean that top six could be one of the best top sixes for years if they grab Matthew Barzal too just the overall versatility and the power play of how that Utah team would function i get that they lost out on Kessle Ring who is a very valuable player but they do have Dmitri Simichev coming right in there to fill in that spot so the Utah Hockey Club assuming they’re able to get some sort of a trade done for a guy like Barzal this would be absolutely terrifying and as a Vancouver Conucks fan you know I’m kind of scared about how Utah is going to be fairing in that central division they could very well be forced to the outside as a wild card and maybe take some wild card opportunities away from Vancouver i don’t know man i think it’s quite possible here and then finally there’s the last perspective it’s the perspective of the New York Islanders fans themselves they just traded away Noah Dobson imagine if they trade bars all if this guy is ultimately available and moved too which I don’t think is going to happen i mean it’s already been reported that they’re going to keep B and Barzal but if Barzal is already being asked about in trade talks again and if Dar changes his mind over the next little while here there could be some huge changes with the way the Islanders are assembled they might be the next selling team not just Pittsburgh if they’re willing to shell out all these assets in the now in order to get Shenans they want Schaefer and James Hagens at the top of the draft then it ultimately might be the beginning of the end for this version of the New York Islanders and the way we perceive this team but either way let me know your thoughts in the comments section below about the idea of Vancouver and Utah asking about Matthew Barzal ahead of the NHL draft lots going on here in Vancouver lots to talk about heading into the next few hours worth of programming i might need to take a nap folks this is the sixth video of the day and it’s not even lunchtime yet let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about these trade rumors barzol Utah Vancouver is it possible let me know what you think i hope you enjoyed this roll [Applause] and bye [Music] [Music]

  1. I kept saying that if Hughes wants out, getting Bedard back is great. But if we get Barzal instead……might actually works better if we are in the "win now" mindset. But if Hughes is not in play, I am not sure how we can afford Barzal. We don't have that many assets we would be willing to part, we are trying to make the playoffs too.
