  1. Not a big Tavares fan but even I think this is an unbelievably team friendly deal. Dude obviously loves being a Leaf.

  2. Money aside – he's still one of the "core 4 or 5" that went to sleep in the playoffs. How is that changing the DNA which needs to be changed!!?

  3. Time to deal Matthews, Marner Nylander and the other overpaid underachieving post season Leafers for some playoff caliber players now so they can add depth and still be under the cap come March 1st

  4. This is what Connor McDavid needs to do if he wants the Cup… make a team-friendly deal, let's say 8 million a year, but will he be greedy and ask for about twice as much? Probably.

  5. See? All someone has to do is sign a contract for half of what they are worth and the fan base is cool. lol

  6. Help a guy out here, Steve. MLSE is among the richest sports organizations in the history of professional sports. The Leafs are the richest NHL franchise ever.

Does not Tavares need a better agent? His cap hit is basically a rounding error.

  7. You need more hometown Torontoians and develop an identity of being a "snake" team where you strike your opponents and opposing goalies with cheap shots when the refs are distracted now 👍

  8. Johnny Toronto definitely deserves a statue and definite number retirement after his career ends. Hopefully he will get at least one Stanley Cup before he hangs up the skates. He deserves it.

  9. A good signing, but this was the right deal for the Leafs, more than 4.5 would have been a mistake. Rationalizing Knies's raise isn't true. This is still going to be a tough year unless the Leafs get more done. Gotta play this free agency smart for future years of FA and trades. Go Leafs Go.

  10. I knew he’d be back but I didn’t see it less than 5 mil. This is a good deal for both parties if he stays as consistent as he has been. Last couple years might not look as good but if thats what it takes to get the deal done oh well
