Which goaltender should the Oilers acquire + Jeff Marek | Oilersnation Everyday with Tyler Yaremchuk

It’s another offseason edition of Oilersnation Everyday, and we’ve got a packed show filled with juicy storylines from around the NHL and Oil Country. We begin with breaking news: Trevor Zegras has been traded from the Anaheim Ducks to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Ryan Poehling and a 2026 fourth-round pick. We’ll dive into what this deal means for both teams, why Anaheim elected to move on from Zegras, and how he fits into the Flyers’ rebuilding timeline.

From there, we turn our attention back to the Oilers’ offseason plans. We break down possible trade destinations for Evander Kane and Viktor Arvidsson—could either forward waive their no-move clauses for a fresh start? We’ll assess what kind of return Edmonton could target and how moving on from one (or both) could reshape the roster.

Jeff Marek, host of The Sheet, joins the show to talk about the Connor McDavid contract situation as the clock ticks down toward his UFA eligibility next summer. Is there legitimate concern that McDavid could explore options outside of Edmonton? Jeff gives us the national perspective.

We’ll also roll through a fresh edition of What’s Trending, pose today’s Giant Question, and drop One Big Take on the Oilers’ priorities heading into the draft and free agency. Finally, we close the show with a look at Game 7 of the NBA Finals, courtesy of our friends at bet365.

  1. Skinner being our goalie did NOT help. He’s failed to be consistent in the final…. Has consistently let in soft goals that break the back of this team. People are all over him for a reason. Sorry, great guy, but we’re not in the nice guy business, we’re in the win business.

  2. Trade who you need to for Swayman. Then Mcdavid will stick around for sure. There might be some coaching changes too.

  3. Those other goalies might be the same as Skinner but Skinner has finals experience which the others don't

  4. Though not necessarily grade 'A' beef, I think the Oilers have a number of assets that would interest a good number of teams, and losing them wouldn't hurt the core of the team. There are also avenues for opening up some cap space with a little creative tinkering. I think the Oilers are in a better position for transactions than people think.

  5. An Elite is must now not a 1A or 1B anymore but in reality thats hard to come by an Elite goalie nowadays. Plus they need to move on from Dustin Schwartz the so called goalie coach now it really shouldn't matter anymore if he's dating the daughter or niece of the owner he's the only from the dark days that hasn't gotten fired and hasn't did anything in the past 14 years something needs to change there.

  6. Am I the only one that thinks a goalie coach change vs a goalie change could be the better answer…? Our tandem has made the Finals twice. Finding a coach that can push this tandem to the next level could be a possibility. If we think that goalies are in their prime at a bit older age, are we not on the cusp with Skinner?

  7. The logic of if you can't make it as Buffalo's starter then you're not a good goalie is a bad take. That team is awful, the odds of any goalie consistently every year there putting up good numbers is a nearly impossible feat. Not saying UPL is necessarily a future franchise goalie, but if anything I think you should look at bad teams in those situations where they have younger goalies who have shown flashes. Many good, under valued goalies were stuck in bad situations like Ullmark, Blackwood, etc. Oilers themselves have a great example in Dubnyk who was a scape goat for years in Edmonton during the decade of darkness, ends up in Minnesota and had some great seasons for them, even getting Hart votes in 2015.

  8. Oilers had Anthony Stolarz and traded him to the Flyers for Cam Talbot and they had another chance to pick him up again in free agency but did not want to spend 2.5 Million.

  9. I dont know what the solution for the goalie problem is. All i do know is every solution people keep bringing up is making me think its gonna end in disaster. Gonna be awesome when we trade away skinner and get another jack campbell back but instead this time we have no skinner to bail us out.
