Marner lost the PR campaign ever since he let his agent and his father drag the leafs in the last contract negotiation through the mud. He lost the fan base. He would have been forgiven had he let his game do the talking in season and playoffs, but sadly he is a butterfly and gets blown away from the puck with one little blow. Is he creative? Yes. Does he have heart and toughness? Nooooooooooooooooo, I will take an average player with heart all day. He is doing the Leafs a favor by leaving, so they can better spend the money on good , tough players that love to play here.
Corey Perry wanted to come to Toronto for years but Leafs Management wanted figure skaters who don't show up in the physical playoffs.
Shany 9 years ago would have been the best Leafs player in the very physical playoffs.
I don't care how old Perry is , every year in the playoffs he is great especially for what he gets paid.
Sign Marchand also.
Sign Tavares if he will give a big home town discount around 5 – 5.7 mil.
Go to Riley , Matthews and Nylanders agents and see if they want to get traded and to a short list of teams.

I have a question. Does anyone believe mich is worth 14 or even 12 mil considering his past record. Yes he is top in the NHL but playoffs he just doesn't have it .that won't change in the future. I believe his price is around 9.5 tops

Not sad to see him go, but Leafs poor asset management ( not trading Marner two years ago ) as per Shanahan, has left the Leafs scrambling. For these so called hockey braintrusts they simply haven’t got a clue. They over evaluate, overpay and capitulate to the players. The whole lot of management team including Pro scouts Amateur scouts, player development has completely failed.
This will be the leafs downfall If they let marner walk for nothing . Brad Treiliving will have a bad record of letting superstars walk

Marner gets a lot of rent free space in your brains. It takes two to tango. Putting everything on Marner is pretty stupid. Marner will win a cup before the Leafs do.
The problem with the leafs is they have built their team around players that aren't cornerstones. Matthews and Marner would be perfect fit on a team with an established core. Nylander seems to fit well in his role on the team but most ppl are not at him bc he has a reasonable salary despite in my opinion I think the guy is better then Matthews and Marner. Maybe not on the defensive side but offensively he is. The guy is pretty clutch. Matthews/Marner great players not clutch. You can't pay these guys top 3 salaries in the league when they do not show up. Enough with the excuses about injuries. To add Marner is just as good as Mathews man . I don't agree with how this team handled the salary. That said no way you pay Marner north of 12. I say trade Matthews before…his contract end in a year or 2. The guy does not look happy here. Get something back in a trade.

Guys, you can argue this till you’re blue in the face. My true feelings is if he wanted to sign here he would on the dot, but I think Mitch Marner’s done in Toronto doesn’t wanna come back. Doesn’t wanna play here the writings on the wall and that’s what it is. He doesn’t want to negotiate so be it but meeting or not if I was the GM let him walk Mitch Marner doesn’t wanna play here
Core 4 days are over it's funny how these money hungry group can never get it done when it counts and Mitch and Tavares still want big money to stay or go elsewhere and they don't take the blame for not getting it done when it counts it just goes to show these guys are all about money not building championship caliber teams
