it actually doesn;t change anything, the habs are trying to improve, we will see if they can get better
I feel like if we were to trade for Dobson that the contract would be a lot better than people think, if it weren’t I don’t think we’d be trading for him in the first place.
I fear Dobson wanting 11 million will raise the demands for Hutson and eventually Demidov, the same way Tavares did with the young Leafs ruining the Leafs future chances.
We have a bunch of players that have signed team friendly contracts this would ruin it all.
You guys basically listed the exact reasons why i would not do that trade. Other than the fact that Dobson is 6 years younger than Matheson, the improvement if any is not big enough for me. Why pay 5 to 6 million more this year for the same guy. Not to mention Mailloux is coming up either this year or next for sure. So id rather hold tight. This really feels like we didn’t get a 2C or a top 6 forward we liked so lets just through some smoke and grab a offensive Defensemen.

I remember amazing stories about him when he was drafted as a quality character. (Not sure why the Habs didn't move up in the draft to get him back then!) Reinbacher, I have to think, would be going back the other way. Maybe a pick too.
That guy again. Don't see it totally feasible as likely going to be extending Lane Hutson….it's like going to be paying two defenseman around $10M/season each? Also, Dobson (108) gave away the puck last season even more than Mike Matheson (107). I would be more looking into a 2C or at least a good two way winger instead.
I like how the espn mock draft drafts for Montreal. We can’t go into the season without a right side defensemen to replace Savard, but I like letting our offence work itself out a bit. Who knows how good Laine will be, as well as guys like Newhook, or Dach.
Actually a 2C would help but no need to overpay for that. We can probably get a better idea of how our team looks and what our biggest needs are a little into the season. We have some guys who can potentially have break out years, and Demidov could be very amazing too. Slaf could move closer towards elite level, and some of our guys on D could really stand out too. As long as we improve a little to start the year we’re fine,
If Matheson doesn't go the other Way then no too the trade…we don't need another Matheson

Cap is going up for the next 3 years, salaries will be growing as well. 10M per year is not ridiculous for a star defenseman. Your palette will have to evolve.

We are seeing the problem with a rebuild when you start being competitive you have to pay your players and your up against the cap ceiling, just replacing 1 problem for another, Dobson would instantly upgrade our defense but would hurt our team in the long run.
Im not ready to give everything to get him and give him a huge overpriced contract based on 1 great season! He's been average at best offensively this year and he's bad defensively!
I don't think we have any chance at landing Dobson unless Reinbacher goes back the other way.

Trades that are speculated about before they happen, almost never do happen. Hughes doesn't let anyone know what he's really up to and that's fine.
Why would Hugo want a 2nd offensive minded D earning 8 figures pa? Dobson would be relegated to the 2nd PP unit & perhaps get 30 secs. How effective is he on 5v5? Do Habs really need him for limited PP time? Having two $10M+ D men seems expensive even with the Cap increasing. If Dobson will cost 8 figures better to spend the money on a legit 2C.
Love your positive energy but needs to be tempered with sharper critique incorporating more balanced perspectives.
Having hutson and Dobson on the backend would be an incredible 1-2 punch on seperate D pairings

We need true no 1 offensive center. Suzuki is an excellent center but he is 2 way.

This is stupid. Why would we trade for Dobson. You going to play him 10 mil, then they must be sending Hutson to the Islanders. We need a center not another puck moving D, that can't play D. This is BS, no way Hughes is this stupid !!!
