  1. Michael Hage pick was the 1st rounder from the Winnipeg Jets pick for Monahan

The 2nd rounder could have been any of the 2nd rounders Habs had…

But yes the Barron for Carrier was shrude

Too bad choosing to keep Barron out of camp and letting go of Kovacevic was the only real undisputed L in Hughes trades so far

    So basically

    Lekhonen for

    Alex Carrier
    &
    Michael Hage’s left leg

  2. At the time of that trade, Lehkonen, was basically playing 3rd/4th line minutes in MTL, mostly a PK specialist. In his top season (31pts in MTL) the top scorer on the team had 72 pts and Lehkonen was tied for 10th on the team in pts.

In Colorado, he was playing 2nd or even 1st line minutes during playoffs with the Avs. His best season was 51 pts and the top scorer had 111 pts. Lehkonen was 5th in pts that season with Colorado, but played with much more productive players.

Everyone in MTL was sad to see Lehkonen leave, but happy for him to get to play with these players in Colorado.

For MTL with that specific trade, time will tell for Hage, but he could potentially end up being as good or better than Lehkonen was in MTL.
So yeah, it could very well end up a win win trade, or even a win for MTL if Hage tops out at over 50pts at some point.

  3. Habs lost because Lehkhonen help Colorado Won the Cup, simple as that ! As long the guys involve in the trade don't bring back the cup to Montreal they lose the trade. In another words it's Stanley Cup or bust !

  4. Great way to see things. Cost you a 7th to move up in the draft.
Take it a level higher. It’s fantastic asset management. They missed on their first attempt but got it really good on the 2nd attempt. Carrier as a 4-5ish defence for leks after the year he had. Habs fan here but omg he missed so many many opportunities to get minimum 5-10 goals a year more. It was fair to think he wasn’t gonna evolve much more but very serviceable and respectable caliber player. To get a mid level dman that’s cost controled and hand handed. It fits a need we needed bad!
They hit a homerun of value on the 2nd go around after missing on Barron.

And finally so happy for leks. Brought his game to another level and cup champ! Sometimes it’s great all around and both teams hit homeruns! Took a risk and it payed off

  5. Nah the trade still sucks for us, Lehkonen was genuinely a great role player and has shown to be even better on Colorado, meanwhile we only got a 2nd and Justin Barron (a player I immediately called overrated when the trade was announced but other habs fans were fawning over him for some reason). To the surprise of no one, Barron became a bust and he got shipped off to Nashville for Carrier who's decent but not nearly worth half as much as Lehkonen. I still hate that trade to this day and still believe that Colorado easily won that trade; not sure why other habs fans aren't pointing out Hughes' mistakes whenever he makes them.
